[Error Code 7] . Unusual Nettwork Traffic

As for me, I’m not having this problem anymore. I didn’t do anything special, besides having worked on another network.

Hi how are you, like many users I am suffering the error code 7 for supposed malicious traffic from my network, but contrary to what I have read here, it works correctly for me if I activate a vpn (proton in this case is the one I use). Other curious data that I can add is that both the mobile app and the browser extension have the same problem. As I mentioned before if I activate the vpn it works fine when I deactivate it gives error code 7 again.

Did somebody from bitwarden just delete what I wrote yesterday???
What a waste of time this is. So what now? I don’t get access to my passwords everytime I travel? I’d have to waste hours trying to get to passwords and then waiting some more to talk to support to unblock an IP? You guys don’t even have the decency to have an actual human to front with these issues and instead you send us automated email for steps that we’ve all already done. And no I’m not connecting to a “private” network because I LITERALLY CANT WHEN I’M TRAVELING.

If you’re blocking off IP Addresses with no way to unblock with any of my other browsers, mobile devices, and desktop clients then you have to have chat support that answers in 5 seconds! The time I expect to get my passwords!

Hey there, please review the guidelines for this community space, you are completely free to share your feedback, but please leave out any verbal attacks on Bitwarden staff.

Rest assured, your feedback has been passed directly to the team.

Cool @bw-admin, . I’ve just logged a ticket and let see how fast you could resolve something that shouldn’t even need your team’s involvement (like logging in). I’ll post here how fast I got to my passwords. Gods, I can’t believe I recommended you to my colleagues.

If it helps, personally I use Mullvad VPN which allows you to switch VPN connections at any time if a bad actor is manipulating a specific IP range.

VPNs are generally recommended as good security practice to protect your network traffic.

Support came back 6hours later, and yes, I provided everything that was asked on that page. Its been more than 24 hours now and I don’t know what was done. I’m now back home and now my home IP is also blocked? Is this the intended and expected behaviour? Am I supposed to wait more than 24 hours to (possibly) get access to passwords?

@bw-admin a VPN isn’t a fix, if you recommend VPNs in this official forum, then the whole point of bitwarden blocking IP or IP ranges was useless in the first place as the attackers could easily be using the same VPNs to bypass your “security” measures.

Think about that and pass that onto your team.

I have logged a new and separate ticket for my home IP and I need all other tickets resolved too as they’re IP ranges I will be working on.

Get your acts together. This isn’t fun for me.

Even I cannot access my Bitwarden account on any of my devices. I am locked out from accessing all my accounts, and now I have no means to access them. Why do they constantly block the IPs? I mean, just show that reCaptcha thing and let us access, at least, rather than blatantly blocking access to our passwords. I have been facing this problem for the past two months, and no solution has been provided. It is my humble request to the Bitwarden team to fix this issue as soon as possible and remove this kind of verification as soon as possible!

Hi all, please remember this is a community supported space with light staff support, for official support, please continue to work with the official support team on the Bitwarden website.

Rest assured your feedback has been passed directly to the team.

Well, thanks for all your help.

Just telling the forum that Support will NOT unblock the IP I’m connecting from – “IP block is responsible for a large number of malicious connection attempts and unable to release blocks until traffic subsides”

Hey all. I had the same problem but I fixed it quite easily. When I first tried to log in and got the error7 I was connected to a mobile hotspot of my Android phone. But then I disconnected and connected to my iPhone hotspot (figured that Apple considers it “more safe”). Tried to enter the user+pass in the Bitwarden extension again and VOILA, IT WORKED.

Bitwarden needs to seriously wake up from slumberland , requiring a user to engage in some wizardry to change their ip for the sole purpose of getting into bitwarden is the definition of INSANITY!

I would honestly fire IT folks at my company for subjecting users to this torture.

I’m literally stuck in the middle of the airport and can’t access my accounts when I need something most?!! Really loved BitWarden but failing when I need most made me hate it a lot.

I’m still locked out, all I want now is to login, make a backup and delete my BitWarden account and never use it again.

LMAO the support basically said to me they can’t do nothing.

After speaking with my engineering team, they have advised me due to unusual traffic coming from your IP, the IP will remain blocked.
We suggest using another network or VPN to access your account.

It took two days to they reply the same as the error message.
I don’t know what your team are facing, but it just feel lazy.

Also, their “fix” to the error contradicts the point of blocking IPs.

Y’all know some similar service for storing passwords?

Guys, seriously…

I will be kind, but this issue is indeed getting out of hand.
Please consider my words, as they are important for you BITWARDEN to understand completely.

As this thread states very precisely, you have a big problem.

I have a big problem as well, I cannot access my passwords, while I’m working, or handling my personal life. Banking, infrastructure, any finance stuff.

What if there is an outage, and I cannot access AWS console? Will you pay compensation to me, because you are the reason why I cannot perform? Will you pay compensation for the company as well, 'cause they are losing several thousand dollars in every ten minutes because of you?

I don’t think so. However, you see the tremendous amounts of complaints, and you really should act.

I’m paid customer, but I’m really think, it is not worth to me at this point. Should I go for self-host bitwarden, or should I ditch bitwarden after 3-5 good years?

That is an important question for you, as I’m not the only one considering it. At this point you are a threat to our life.

I understand you are trying to avoid threats that could be potentially harmful for us.

But from an attacker perspective… They really could change their IP more easily than the general user.
So giving and advice to restart router and use VPN…

Really, this is just stupid idea.

And no, im not out of line:

  • Constructive criticism is welcome, but criticize ideas, not people.

This is a stupid idea, because you prevent valid traffic to reach your services (therefore your subscribers will cancel the plans), but you cannot prevent malicious traffic from reaching your services.
What is the point then?

Please, for everybodys sake, turn OFF this feature ASAP, its no good for anybody.

Hi all, thank you again for sharing your experiences and feedback. I can assure you we’ve passed this on to our team and we are continuing to look at ways to improve user protection without sacrificing the user experience.

As @bw-admin mentioned, reaching out to our Support Team will be the best way to resolve a current issue you may be experiencing, but we appreciate the feedback so that we can look at addressing your concerns.

Having the same issue but just on Firefox not on Chrome on the same machine. For a at least two weeks now.

>have problem
>go to official forum
>be told to disable VPN as it may block your acess to the vault
>try everyting from the default guideline
>nothing works
>contact support
>wait two days
>be told by support to use VPN
>return to official forum
>complain that support didn’t help
>be told to contact support

And a very stupid product manager at that!

I think the developer and Product manager who came up with this fantastic martian idea to prevent threats by causing pain and work loss to actual paid users, need to be fired. Its now the time before they make your company shutdown. Please cut their salaries too.
This implementation is a joke.
