That may be true of some comments here, but the reason mods have engaged you specifically is that your own critique of the folder feature has been anything but “clean [and] clear”.
Listen, I’m not fan of the new UI, and am of the opinion that the UI design started going south already in 2022, but unless you can point to one or more of the 8 issues described above, then your complaints about folders have no rational basis.
You keep bringing up the “All Items” section when people ask you why you object to the new folder UI, but the “All Items” section is a red herring. The old UI had something very similar: below the folder list on the Vault page, there was a list of all vault items that had not been assigned to a folder:
So you seem to be saying that if we took the old UI and made a single small change — show all vault items in what was the “No Folder” list at the bottom of the Vault view — then, all of a sudden, you can’t see or use the folder structure anymore?!?!?
Perhaps you have valid objections to the new folder UI (although we might never know), and perhaps you have valid objections to the “All Items” section — but complaining about the “All Items” section when you are being asked about your objections to the folder functionality is not helping, and is not getting you anywhere.
If your extension is on 2024.12.4 already, then you can get rid of the “Fill”-button this way: Settings → Autofill → Click items to autofill on Vault view
There is a workaround for that: change the tab in your browser, then that state get’s resetted. - There was a “Home-button” suggested, and that would make sense here indeed.
The initial idea seems to have been to improve the process of creating new vault items. In the old extension, when a user starts adding details to a new item and clicks away (i.e. to check a verification email), all details are lost if the item wasn’t saved.
The new extension does the same thing, but now it keeps the “create new item” page focused. Which is useless since it also wipes all data as before.
The ideal solution is to have the extension actually remember data, but i’m not sure if that’s being worked on.
@nelph0nd You’re not going to get anything if you keep ignoring our replies. The ONLY differences related to your beloved folders are these:
Viewing the list of folders takes the same amount of clicks (before you clicked on a button at the bottom, now at the top, which means your cursor travels less);
Viewing the list of items that aren’t in a folder now takes 1 additional click and the same amount of scrolling;
Can’t see number of items in a folder;
Can’t see parent folder when in subfolder.
Any other difference that you believe you have found only exists in your mind.
That’s because 2 of your claims are not valid, and the third is irrelevant.
But at least you seem to have confirmed that none of the 8 material changes in the folder UI are the reason for your complaints, so that is helpful information.
So, it seems that you are either having significant trouble articulating what is actually bothering you, or you just have a strong aversion to change of any kind (and you have no objective reason for preferring one UI over the other, other than the fact that the new UI is different, and the old UI is familiar).
For all who go that route: do it for now, if you want to. But it is only a temporary solution, as you will not get any security fixes/updates for the extension as long as you don’t update.
Yes, hopefully they are reading this and understand that it isn’t just complaining to complain. The new version really impacts usability for a lot of people, and it’s obvious it needs to be rolled back until they can correct all of those issues BEFORE rolling the new version out again.
The complaints don’t amount to the full 722 posts, as there were also (e.g.) many posts communicating new settings, possible with following updates after the first release of the new extension. And in the last days, I would say the activity slowed down a bit, if anything.
The team had already implemented dozens of user suggestions in the months prior to the launch, during which they have put almost all if not all of their efforts into fixing the feedback the beta testers were giving them. No other company reacts so quickly to user feedback.
And they kept doing it even after the extension was officially launched:
You may not be the only one. But, in short: as representative (or not) as it may have been - there was constant criticism of Bitwarden’s “old / bad UI” over the last years. (BTW, I too think that the old UI was not that “ugly”… but it didn’t look very “modern” either… though, for me as well, function is more important)
I would like the generator to remember the current generated password when you click out of window and go back in. I always use the desktop client for password generation now as I have had it where websites don’t accept my default 20 character length password or something similar. I don’t want to save each new password attempt to the item as that ruins password history.
However I can see the merit in it not remembering the password as well
The browser extension does have a generator history, annoyingly slightly scrolled off the bottom of the screen. The desktop app has a password history as the next menu item.does not. Feel free to create a feature request to add it to the desktop app.
Also, the browser extension does have a pop-out button in the top right corner, which might ease your workflow a bit.
Since now the extension stays in the generator but looses the current “actions” and their “data” (the generated password/passphrase…).
In the old extension, it opened with the “Tab” tab first and when changing into the generator again, the previously generated password was also replaced.
So, you could say, only new is now, that the extension stays in “generator mode”…
