MacOS Bitwarden client v.1.33.0 (unsupported) - no longer able to login - Can somebody please confirm?

I am no longer able to login with Bitwarden MacOS client app v 1.33.0 since last 2 of 3 days.

If somebody still uses this version, could you please check if login still works?

I can use browser version I know, but this is about the client app. It’s an older MacOS I am running here on this machine.

@itoldusoandso Hi!

I think (and hope), nobody can answer your question.

I know, it doesn’t help you much, but for security and compatibility reasons, you should not do what you are trying to do… Not only your system didn’t get security updates for a long time - your Bitwarden apps didn’t get security fixes for a long time as well (I think for a Bitwarden client 1.33.x we speak of “release around October 2018” (!!)) and then you are still connected to the internet with that configuration?!?

This is really not recommended and almost invites all kinds of “disaster”. Please get an up-to-date machine before going on - for your own safety.

Thanks, I am aware of that. Let’s hope somebody will answer.

I only store partial passwords and passwords hints not full passwords in Bitwarden so the risk is minimal for me and I have very complex system of passwords and Bitwarden is used to pre-fill part of the password and provide password hints. Every site has a different password. Yet, if Bitwarden account is hijacked, attacker can’t do anything with it and I am still capable to login into sites.
For confidential sites I use Firefox and that is still being updated for my system.
Bitwarden app was really just for convenience because user interface is better suited for making edits.
I would need to update the machine by throwing it into garbage and buying new machine. This Mac is 15 years old and still has 16 GB RAM in it and a fast SSD. It runs perfectly fine anything for day to day needs.

It’s up to you. But for me, I don’t know if this is better or worse.

In my experience, most “clever humanly-thought password-systems” are not nearly as clever, as one thinks… all kinds of “patterns” are not optimal with passwords - for one thing, that goes straight against “randomness” (most important criterion for passwords). And thinking of the use of AI, I guess that computers are or will be able to identify patterns, even when one thinks it is “impossible”.

Anyway, good luck!

At 15 years your older Bitwarden will not be your only vulnerability. Your MacOS version will also be long-unsupported for security updates.

You could use it as an internal-only server for some function.

Only my view. Your options are best known to you.

What 15 years you are talking about? MacOS was supported till 2021. Bitwarden last update 1.33 was released in 2022.

My original question was… if somebody still uses this version, could you please check if login still works? That was the question. The answers are bit off topic. I didn’t ask for advice what should I be doing?

I am an adult and aware of risks. No problem.

That 15 years, with known consequences for the available OS.

I did write that your options are best known to you.
Good luck.

If you want to keep using unsupported Bitwarden clients in this operating system, your best bet is to self-host and download a deprecated version of the Bitwarden Server software or Vaultwarden.
