MacOS App not able to work offline?

Hi,

I am new to bitwarden and i am confused if i cannot use the MacOS offline as the password safe does not open when i did not have a connection to my home?

As the ios App can handle this and also i read a lot i am surpised that it does not work?

I use vaultwarden (docker) and the official apps “Bitwarden password manager”. 2FA is active. The vaultwarden server is only reachable internal (by using an regular domain like abc.domain.eu) and is reachable through npm.

As long as i am connected to my home i can work with bitwarden MacOS app and open it by Master Password or finger print. When i leave my home and start the app it seems that i get logged out and the app wants to login again with the username. That does not work as i have no connection. It shows that a unexpedted issue occured.

Same issue in browser addon.

I am wondering why i am getting logged out as all settings just say “lock” and not “log out”. Also i allways clicked “remeber me” (User) and “remeber me for 30 days” (2FA).

During setup i changed in npm from a sub-domain ssl cert to a wild-card ssl cert. To be sure to not have there any issues i deleted all “bitwarden” certs in my macos keychain und re-installed the macos app. They where rebuilded after the first login.

I was not able to find a Bitwarden folder in “~/Library/Application Support/” to look for error-log files. Any idea where to find it or how to fix the issue?

It seems, you are using an unofficial server software, which is not supported by Bitwarden, as it is an independent product. From time to time, there will be compatibility issues between the official Bitwarden client apps (browser extension, mobile app, desktop app…) and an unofficial server product, when Bitwarden implements changes to its own server software and/or client apps. “…Bitwarden cannot guarantee that official clients will work perfectly with non-official servers.”

(Also due to this - and for other reasons - we recommend using the official Bitwarden server software.)

It is generally not possible for members of the Bitwarden community (users or developers) to help with such issues - and with issues of the unofficial server itself. Please seek support in their community spaces.
