Browser Extension – Unable to Select and Copy Entry Name

Hello Bitwarden Support team,

I’m writing to report an issue with your browser extension: previously, I could click on the name of an entry to select and copy it, but now the text is no longer selectable. This change has significantly impacted my workflow.

For example, I had entries structured like this:

  • Name: AWS Account (123412341234)
  • User: user
  • Password: password

Previously, I could easily click the entry name — “AWS Account (123412341234)” — select the tenant ID (123412341234) and then manually enter the username and password. Now, I can’t select or copy the name at all, which is extremely inconvenient, especially when working with IAM accounts that require copying the tenant ID.

Could you please restore the ability to select and copy the entry name, or suggest a workaround?

Thank you for your attention and for any assistance you can provide.

Best regards

@buron Welcome to the forum!

Well, this is a Community Forum - I think it’s good that you posted it here also, but the Support team is either available here or as you already did, bugs can and should be reported on GitHub:

PS: Just for the terminology: in the English versions, that is called the “item name”.

The best work-around would be to define a custom field:

Can you explain why you need to manually enter the username and password, and why you need to copy and paste the Tenant ID?

If you are using the sign-in form shown below, then Bitwarden can conveniently autofill all three fields, with no need for copy/paste or manual entry:

In some clouds, such as Huawei Cloud, i can’t autofill, for some reason it doesn’t fill correctly

Regarding the custom fields, I would have to change around 30 entries. I constantly work with many cloud accounts, and this affects my workflow.

Suit yourself, but with some minor adjustments, it is possible to autofill the Huawei Cloud login form (and it is most likely possible to make similar adjustments on all/most of your other IAM accounts):

It would take a one-time time investment of at most an hour, and it would save you from what seems to be a very cumbersome (and unsafe!) login workflow.

I understand, but… is it really that complicated to just allow text selection? The way it was before? What could have been the reason for changing it?

If this was possible before, then to me, it’s a bug. When did it stop working?

As for my previous comments above, they were in response to your request for a work-around:

This stopped working about a week ago, maybe longer, I’m not completely sure, but it was never a problem for me to copy and paste the tenant ID. Now it really bothers me, I have to click ‘edit’ and copy from there, then cancel.
