We will be required to update certain passwords once a month. will these passwords be updated automatically on Bitwarden or do they need to be updated manually?

I would recommend updating those passwords first in Bitwarden so you can take advantage of the password generator tool. You can always view previous passwords at the bottom of the item if you need it when filling in an “Old Password” field on the site you need to update.

No, this will not be automated, on the one hand because Bitwarden does not have any option for setting a password expiration date, and on the other hand because no password manager can automate the process of updating passwords in a way that works on every website (simply because there is no universally adopted standardization of the methods used for changing passwords on different websites, despite some recent efforts to implement at least partial standards to aid with automation).
