Add Autofill button in "View Item" view for the browser extensions

So, oftentimes I need to go inside the card (especially, no pun intended, for credit card cards) to make sure it’s the one I want to use), but then I need to go back to the long list of cards/accounts to use the autofill.

Please add the autofill button inside the cards.
(Unless I am oblivious and it’s already there - I am not seeing it.)

I modified your topic title to be more descriptive (was: “Add `Autofill` button inside the cards for the browser extensions”).

Yes, I am hardly following this community but came back for this exact reason. I forgot even how it worked previously, but I definitely do open the individual secrets because sometimes it’s not clear which account it is, the name is truncated, I must open it to know… and then I need to go back again. Super annoying additional steps. That worked better with the previous version (Chrome extension)

Please also provide this feedback in the feedback thread:

Although I agree that that having all the buttons on the “view tab” also be available in “view item”, there is another trick that may make this less of a problem until (if at all) this is implemented.

There is no harm with changing the “item name” field. You can put anything in there that helps you distinguish between your cards/accounts.

The item name is not used to figure out what to autofill. That is determined by the Website field further down the page:

I was not a user of the community but had to register just to complain about this same problem. It’s so annoying I had to go to the details to check some notes on the item, and then go back and search through all the list again the item to click fill…

So I can go change that option, thanks! But the point has been missed, in my opinion. A new user is still stuck with a default UI that undermines the purpose of a password manager.

Why isn’t the autofill button in the View Login screen anymore? By default? These two changes, together, are the problem. The user ends up on View Login by accident… where the core function has been removed entirely.

99 / 100 times I launch the Bitwarden extension, I want to auto-fill on the tab I am currently on. I assume the vast majority of users are the same. The auto-fill functionality has been diminished or removed from the primary screens the user engages with. And 99 / 100, I have to back up and try again bc of the UI changes.

+1 to this feature request.

Since the december update the UX for saving URLs onto a pre-existing login record became worse.

Someone highlighted how to do it in the new UI but still there should just be an easier one click way of save the URL to match a login record, a button for “Fill and save” one click should be made available…

@gman Maybe open a thread on it’s own to your problem, so that we can see, what the problem is.

3 posts were merged into an existing topic: Restore “Show Cards” and “Show Identities” options in browser extension

@arcticTaco Welcome to the forum!

I moved your comment into the relevant feature request thread. After you spend a little more time on the forum, your user level will be automatically promoted from “New User” to “Basic User”, after which you will be able to vote for this feature, by clicking the Vote button at the top of the thread.

I think adding a Fill button to the View Login page that opens when you click on an item rather than the (small) Fill button, something like this, would solve a lot of the frustration around how the new UI overhaul handled autofill.

@maxrom Hi!

We moved your post into the existing feature request that is the same as yours.

Thank you. I searched for an existing request but I guess I missed this one. That vote return bug still seems to be alive and well because I can’t vote.

I guess I heard recently, that the bug should be resolved. (?!) - There were 0 votes on the feature request I closed, though.

If you want to check your overall votes: Preferences → Activity → Votes

I know mine was too new to get anything but I wanted to vote on this one now that it’s merged. I see my vote activity on that page, including the topic I opened about the bug in the first place (Return votes after the topic is closed - Feature Requests / Password Manager - Bitwarden Community Forums) but it looks like the two other topics linked within were closed so maybe I’m just still out of votes.

You should have a total of 20 votes to give. Per your profile page, you have voted on 22 feature requests, 5 of which have been closed. Thus, if the votes on closed topics were returned, then you should have 3 votes left. If the votes were not returned to you, then I would suggest going to each of the 5 closed feature requests that you voted in, and check whether you are able to manually remove your vote (and if so, whether this restores any of your unused votes).
