Unfortunately the only way to opt out is to uninstall the current version of the extension and install the last good version, which is on the Bitwarden github here:
Something I have noticed a lot of in the past several days is that soooooo many users (including myself) keep asking “why? WHY? WHYYYYY?” and that above everything else is the biggest indicator that this UI redesign is a failure.
In any interface, if everyone is asking that over and over again, you are making changes that are not improvements. Should have paid attention to that in the beta, because I saw the same feedback from that.
How do we go back the old UI?
This new one is useless.
It is now taking ages to log-in, and often comes up blank after logging in…
I need to close/open the browser again to fix.
And the ‘fill’ button operation is really annoying.
Not sure who tested this before the release, but this is seriously not good!
How strange is it that companies keep doing this? The problem is that companies don’t seem to revert even after backlash.
How can I pay a company a yearly subscription fee if they might reduce functionality so drastically overnight (from my vantage point).
This. Bitwarden has the power to instantly fix this by rolling it back. It’s there. It’s the extension I’ve been helping people sideload who have found the new one unusable.
If the BW team did this, they would immediately solve all these problems that they themselves created. This would be a huge win and would turn heads and prove to their users that they do in fact care about and value their input.
But I’ve never seen an org do this. They ignore feedback, roll out bad ideas anyway, and then ignore the backlash, and instead continue to flog that dead horse and try to force it to work.
To that end, I ask Bitwarden, why? Why insist on going down this road when you have the capacity to fix this set of self-induced problems RIGHT NOW by simply reverting? Boom, problems solved, confidence restored. It really is that easy.
I have lost track of everything - was it already reported, that in the new UI, the “overwrite warning” when you change a password for a login item is gone?!
Here you can see how it was with the old browser extension:
I just tested this with my “old” Firefox extension and would say “no”, a right click on an item didn’t cause something to happen in the extension - just a browser “context” menu opened:
I agree. The “Fill” button is the biggest disappointment. Clicking the whole item to fill – the most common action for a password manager – is faster and more convenient than hunting for the small button. Viewing the item is way way less frequently performed.
Modernizing the look is fine, but this is the New Math of UX…
On the many sites where autofill fails, you need to be able to easily copy the username and then the pw. In the new design, you need to click to edit, then copy username. Then repeat the 2 clicks for pw? Not great.
As others have stated, making edit the option when you click on the site-specific entry is not intuitive.
And showing all other vault items under the site-specific entries is confusing and not useful.
Thanks for providing a free pw manager.
The new design is a step backwards, though.
I don’t understand why a UI redesign was authorized by Bitwarden higher ups. One of the things that brought me to Bitwarden over other password managers was it’s UI. Why change a good thing?
Stuff I loved is now changed, making it a PITA to get what I need from the app. Some examples:
Sometimes I need just a username or password.
OLD UI: 1) open extension, click respective icon
NEW UI: 1) open extension, click copy icon, click username or password. Not only are there extra clicks involved, it involves a lot more mouse movements.
Does login have a verification code attached to it? (can no longer tell):
OLD UI icon indicated whether the login has a verification code function.
NEW UI does not indicate existence of verification code function.
Tab view gave me just what I need with uncluttered view:
OLD UI had Tab view, giving me just what I need for the site I’m on
NEW UI shows me all logins (which I don’t need) and forces me to click through many dropdowns to get what I need. What a disaster this is.
I could go on with more specifics with write-ups but I don’t want to waste my whole day.
There was nothing wrong with the old UI! It was awesome.
This new UI sucks. I normally don’t put code work down like this but I don’t see why this change was allowed.
I am very disappointed in the decision making that led to this change. It was not needed. Waste of time, money, and only ended up making the app worse. Can’t put to words my disappointment over this. Been using Bitwarden since version 1ish.
I’m also not a fan of the ostentatious glitzy look that Bitwarden has now adopted. I thought the old UI was fine from a functional perspective and the changes I’m seeing so far were not needed.
I often really enjoy updates, but this one. This is a utility. It’s fine for it to be utilitarian. I don’t care how it looks. I care how it functions. My Identity no longer shows in the browser extension where I need it. Yes, I figured I could make it a favorite, but why was that necessary? One click to edit is gone. Easily copying TOTP with one click is gone. What were they thinking?!
You can bring back those copy buttons by:
Settings → Appearance → Check “Show quick copy actions on Vault”
The thing is: with the old UI, it was not intuitive, that clicking an item and either opened the view mode or caused auto-fill. I too found that very confusing at times and it was an inconsistency, that is now gone. - But I agree, that the new Fill-button may not be the best solution.
NEW UI: Go to Settings → Appearance → “Show quick copy actions on Vault” and bring back the old copy buttons.
After a few days now… I somewhat get used to the new filter functions and don’t find them that bad. E.g. to get access to certain folders is now quicker as to first change to the old “Vault” tab, go down to the folders etc.
But I would like a function, that you can toggle if you want to see all vault items by default.
I guess there was. For one, there was a constant complaint about Bitwarden’s UI. Second, there were some inconsistencies in the behaviour of the extension, that was confusing to many people, also (I experienced this too). That is now somewhat better.
The extension is only out a few days… I do have hope, that the feedback get’s considered and there will come improvements.
@Nail1684, thanks for the feedback on Show quick copy actions on Vault.
I thought the old UI’s method for dealing with folders was perfect. Click Vault > Scroll Down > select folder you want. But the browser extension is best used with the search function. For dealing with folders and stuff, the Desktop app is best.
What problems did you have with the OLD UI that the NEW UI has fixed? For me all the NEW UI has done is introduce problems that didn’t exist before. I didn’t have any issues with the OLD UI. None.
