Updating our Bitwarden installations Company-Wide

It is important to have all of our Bitwarden installs company-wide up to the latest version for obvious reasons.

Is there a method to do updating of all our Bitwarden installations?

  • We use the Bitwarden supplied version of Bitwarden.exe to install on our users PCs.
  • This version of Bitwarden requires Escalation as Admin to update\install.
  • We use this version so we can take advantage of Biometrics and Windows Hello.

Biometrics are not supported on:

  • The Bitwarden Windows store app however it does update itself.
  • The Bitwarden users app version installed in appdata which does update itself.

So how do we update these Windows installed versions of Bitwarden, which support Biometrics?

  • We do not give our users ability to install software.
  • Installing the new version over the top of the current one seems to add another install of Bitwarden? This causes more issues.
  • If we uninstall the current version and install the newest version the users settings are lost eg. login email etc. and the user has to start again.

We have a deployment tool PDQ Deploy and now PDQ Connect so we have the tools to use but we need to best procedure going forward for Bitwarden and we haven’t found it yet.

If anyone has any ideas or existing solution, please let me know :wink:

I’m asking the same question. You’d think this should be simple, but it’s not. I’ve tried every method imaginable and cannot get it to install. It’s not that complicate, and yet here we wait.

I’ve tried these command arguments /silent /q and it just hangs. Very frustrating.
