Sort items by date of modification, addition, last use, etc

yep, i dont know anyone that reads entire help section of x software when installing it and intending to use it, unless running into some issues

still lacks basic filtering that every competing password manager has, we cannot even filter by entires that have passkeys/have dashboard of passkeys, we cannot sort/filter by edit/add times, we cannot easily filter items that have notes, attachments, 2fa (only mobile app has a good section for that)

the problem here is that barely anybody wants to search specific filetype/site on google via those args, as adding stuff like “reddit” to search query is usually more than enough

in password manager you usually once in a while possibly need/want to find something that has an attachment, passkey, or whatever else you can think of, there is nothing that is “power user-ish” in that

Like not knowing how to perform an advanced task? If you don’t have the inclination to read technical documentation, you can always pose a question in the Ask the Community section of the forum.

1Password does not allow you to filter or search for vault items that contain file attachments.

To do this in LastPass, you have to use the LastPass Command-Line Interface, and download a special shell script that identifies vault items with attachments.

I was initially very confused by this thread but after writing this, pondering the poll, re-reading the comments and looking at the Admin Console, I realized my misunderstanding. For anyone else who stumbles in here and wonders what is going on… The poll implies that the Passwords Table has filtering by ‘Name’ for Collections, but this only applies to the tables in the ‘Admin Console’. There does seem to be a plan to bring the sorting options from the Admin Console, to the Password Manager ‘All Vaults’ page Tables’ as well. Points are also raised that table sorting/filtering may be a bit lackluster in general and Bitwarden are looking for suggestions to improve it.

The Bitwarden Web Vault tables deviate a bit. The ‘Passwords Table’ under ‘Vaults’ has Name and Owner columns, with no sorting/filtering (But as mentioned, there seems to be a plan to bring the Admin Console Table sorting/filtering over to this page). The ‘Reports Tables’ for Weak & Exposed Passwords do include the toggles for sort by ‘Name’, ‘Owner’, ‘Weakness’, and ‘Time Exposed’ but curiously, this is omitted for the Reused Passwords Table for some reason. Hopefully this is amended too. Whilst I’m here, I feel these report pages really need export buttons… and so do others as a feature request has been raised for this. Vote for it here: Vault Health Reports exports

For anyone still confused, basically:

Apologies if this is a silly and pointless exercise… :sweat_smile: Maybe it will help someone.

@gtran additional suggestion, based on @grb responses around advanced search queries. They are an excellent feature, but a lot of users won’t know about them (probably). Could it be worth adding an additional nudge about advanced search tags under the input search box? I know there’s the question mark link, but most users probably miss this still. It is pretty vague.

Bitwarden , this feature would be great and useful . Indeed i update my passwords at least once a year for better security and i would really need it

This is not generally recommended. This practice at best offers marginal protection, and works only in case you happen to time your password change so that it falls exactly inside the time window between when your password was leaked and when the leaked password was used for account take-over. Unless hackers wait for a year or more between stealing your password and using it, rotating your password annually will not significantly improve your secure posture.

The diagram below illustrates the timing (assuming that you follow best practices of immediately changing your password on any evidence of a leak or compromise):

graph LR
root[Last<br>password<br>change] -->|&Delta;T<sub>1</sub>| A(Password<br>leak)
-->|&Delta;T<sub>2</sub>| B[Disclosure of<br>password leak]
--> C[Emergency<br>password change<br>&lpar;post-disclosure&rpar;]
A-->|&Delta;T<sub>3</sub>| D[Account<br>compromise<br>&lpar;using leaked password&rpar;]
-->E[Emergency<br>password change<br>&lpar;post-compromise&rpar;]

Basically, for a routine (regularly scheduled) password change to protect you, it would need to occur exactly during the time interval ΔT2 or ΔT3 — whichever interval is shorter. This is only guaranteed if the interval between routine password changes is shorter than the lower value of ΔT2 or ΔT3.

whatever the reason i change my password , i don’t need to have more than 1 item in my password history and such a basic feature should be available in Bitwarden settings

This feature request is about sorting vault entries, not about password history. There is a separate feature request for clearing password history that you might check out and vote for if you feel it valuable.

My response was just an attempt to give you some general advice that explains why regularly scheduled password rotations are futile, unless your password changes are done much more frequently than once per year.

Hi Bitwarden team,

I’m writing to request a new feature: the ability to sort logins by recently used. This would be a very useful addition for users with large numbers of logins, as it would allow us to quickly find the logins we need without having to scroll through a long list.

Currently, logins are sorted alphabetically by default. This is fine for small numbers of logins, but it can be cumbersome for users with hundreds or even thousands of logins.

Agreed. I subscribed to pro for the reused passwords report, etc but the sheer number of items in the vault makes it impossible to manage them without the ability to sort them based on last usage…

Hope they add this soon.

Fantastic idea.
The complexity of my vault is only going to grow over time. Significant improvements to navigation seem like a must-have.

Agreed that this would be an amazing feature! I don’t have a crazy amount of passwords but have to bounce between mutliple computers for work and it’s simple but annoying to have to individually search for each website I need to log back into; especially when I have to do it 2 or 3 times in a day.

So i did some digging and it seems this feature got implemented and was ready for deployment. Due to switching to a new repo it got dropped. Highly unfortunate. I hope someone want’s to pick this up again!

For some websites, I have 3+ accounts, where I use only primary account most times. And I should find and select which one to use for login every time I have to login. Also, It’s quite frustrating that auto-fill for TOTP doesn’t work properly in that case.

Therefore, I also suggest an option to set whether to auto-fill TOTP for the top account in order as well.

@abishekh_kc @bwprousr @mr.sun @dawnandrew100 @Mi_Ass @itsit I merged your posts with this feature request to the same topic.
