Revert to older UI design (prior to the December 2024 changes)

I think refining the design is a good thing, and I can understand the unjustified antipathy people may have at first due to unfamiliarity. However, I encountered a few bugs even after just a few days of use, and I think it’s a little too early to make a release. This version feels more like a beta testing to me.

In addition to the bad design, the new interface is noticeably slower. As the final result, filling in the login that used to take 0.5 seconds, now takes 2-3.

Wow! Bitwarden went from being almost fully automatic to requiring multi-step user intervention. When most things are becoming more automated using AI, Bitwarden is going the way of Microsoft by adding features most people do not want or need. The suggested fix: Settings > Appearance > Show quick copy actions on Vault does not seem to work for me. I still get the clunky interface that requires additional user intervention steps to log in.

What about it doesn’t work? Do you not see the quick copy icons after you enable that option?

Firefox, Remove it, Reinstall in Bitwarden Password Manager version history (Version 2024.8.0)

@XiangXiang Welcome to the forum!

Please be aware, that this is only a temporary solution, as you lack now also all security updates for the extension since September 2024 (when you are on an “August” version).

Can you just introduce an option to completely revert to the old UI design?

The new one is just cluttering and overwhelming, the older was aesthetically and functionally better.

I’m guessing you are not going to do that, as other companies who are breaking their designs in the last years, but please consider at least those points:

  • paddings are too big, even with compact mode
  • we don’t need to see see all the vault items when we open the extension, but just the current website ones
  • the option button, at the end of each item is useless and it’s just wasting space

Why is it useless? - I already found it to be useful at times, because those actions are reachable without opening the item.

I made an account literally just to ask how to switch this back to the old look and it seems like you can’t. What is with this stupid trend of changing the UI of everything to be massive bubbles with huge rounded corners and 3/4 of the screen is empty space?!
The old UI had at least twice the information in half of the window size and when I clicked on something it did what I expected. Now it’s just a bunch of Mac/Windows 11 looking icons and I end up just clicking around to figure out what the hell anything is.
Please enable a “switch back to old interface” option. This new UI has zero improvements.

You can reduce the padding by activating the compact mode:
Settings → Appearance → Compact mode

Compact mode literally makes the pop out WIDER. Yes, it’s great you got 1 more thing in the window but the old UI was leaps and bounds better than this.
Why do I have to click the little tiny “fill” button instead of just the bar of the thing? Why is there only 5 things listed on a pop out that is taking up half the screen? Why is everything 8 more clicks than the previous version? I’m trying to find positives here but there aren’t any.

Why did bit warden change it at all? The new UI is bad.

@bootlegcoal Welcome to the forum!

The most likely explanation is the one I had provided in the feedback thread:

@bootlegcoal Depending on your needs you might also be interested in the following:

In the latest update, you can switch back to the classic behaviour:

    Settings > Appearance > Show quick copy actions on Vault

    Settings > Autofill > Click items to autofill

An option to collapse the ‘all items’ section is also on the way.

Because you didn’t activate getting rid of the Fill-button again:
Settings → Autofill → Click items to autofill on Vault view
(possible with version 2024.12.4+)

So, then fundamentally, this update just didn’t save any changes or the defaults are the reverse of what they should be?
How do you make the NEW button the SEARCH bar and the button bar at the bottom a normal size? They’re 4x the size of everything else when you’re in compact mode and 3x the size of everything else on the screen?

This is not currently possible.

I think a fundamental problem is that the browser extension UI is being designed to serve as a prototype for the mobile app UI. Therefore, the most frequently used buttons have been made large enough to match the size of your fingertip or thumb. This, of course, makes no sense for the browser extension, where user interactions occur using a mouse, not using a handheld touch screen.

While I overall like the redesign: Am I the only person that is quite annoyed by having to first click on the copy button, and then choose what to copy, if I want/need to fill the credentials manually on a web page? A button for each would be way nicer.

Settings → Appearance → Show quick copy actions on Vault
