I experienced a login problem after a clean reinstall of my Mac. It made me crazy!
Logging in on the Bitwarden website seemed to work normal, logging in on the app or web extension did not work.
After a very long search and trying out everything, I found the solution to this problem: although I live in Belgium, I had to put the region on “US”.
Probably I registered like this.
Hope it can help other users experiencing the same problem.
Same issue for me! Just reinstalled my PC, and this had me in a bit of a panic.
Signed up just to say, the devs really need to address this - it’s a pretty clear UX failure.
I’m going to guess they have two data regions now because of GDPR in Europe - I’m going to further guess they didn’t have any way of actually determining where existing users came from… which is a good thing!
But it’s obviously not clear to users that they’re being asked for a data region - nor would anyone (without some technical knowledge of web services and GDPR) have any reason to expect their account would have been defaulted to the US region.
Also, if I’m guessing correct, they really need to give users some way to change their region, and physically migrate their data - I’m fairly certain you’re not GDPR compliant by only offering new users the option to have their data stored in their region.
Thanks for the feedback, it will be passed along to the team!
Important to note that no matter if you choose EU OR US data centers for vault data, your information remains GDRP compliant, see Compliance | Bitwarden for more information.
