I converted an old laptop into a Chromebook using an official installer. When I logged into it it loaded my bitwarden app like one would expect however I can’t log into my account using it. I know the email and master password I am putting in are correct (verified by checking on another windows laptop). When I try to login on the Chromebook though it says something about the username being incorrect. It isn’t. And when I hit the eyeball to view the password it is correct as well. Any ideas?
Hello and welcome to the community,
- Are you logging into the right cloud? There is bitwarden.com and bitwarden.eu (selectable on the login page); they are not interchangeable. On a logged-in client, clicking on the top right icon with your initials should show your cloud.
- Are you using non-ASCII characters in your password? Have you been able to log in successfully on another Chromebook before?
Here is a longer list of checklists you can do:
@MaestroC2 Welcome to the forum!
It would be helpful if you could provide the exact wording of the error message, or a screenshot.
The password does not use special characters but is very long. Not sure how to change the cloud thing. I don’t see anything in the login popup box to change it (using the browser extension not trying to log in via the website). As for logging in on a Chromebook before I don’t think I have ever tried it until now.
The exact phrase is:
You may have typed in the wrong email address. Try again. Dismiss.
There does not appear to be any such error message in Bitwarden. Could you please post a screenshot of your browser extension and the error message? (redact any private information before posting).
Where did you obtain the browser extension, and what version is it? (copy the information from Settings > About > About Bitwarden)
There is a dropdown menu at the bottom of the first page of the login form:
I figured out the problem. Short answer, I’m stupid. I was logging into a google account that did not have bitwarden’s extension in it. Instead it was loading the lastpass extension which I dropped a year or two ago when the latest breech happened. I didn’t even realize that it said Lastpass at the top. Like I said, I’m stupid… Sorry for wasting your time on that…
