My browser BW extensions list three categories of links at the top of the page: 1. Autofill Suggestions; 2. Favorites; 3. All Items. The Autofill Suggestions fill up the page and the list keeps increasing every day, so that I have to scroll to Favorites just to install my minimum Favorite sites in the tabs of my browser. Please say there is a way to DELETE FOREVER the “Autofill Suggestions”, because they list things I don’t give one hoot in hell about.
For each of the vault items that you do not want to autofill, set its match detection to “Never”. Or, if you truly hate autofill, set the “Default URI match detecton” (at the bottom of settings >> autofill) to “Never”.
That said, autofill is the single greatest convenience that a password manager brings to the table, and it offers protections against falling victim to a look-alike web site (because autofill fails).
Most likely, you are seeing too many autofill suggestions because some vault entries have a URL and match rule that not specific enough, causing it to match on pages to which it does not belong. For those that are showing up where you do not expect them, try changing the URL to the login page for the website and setting the match detection to (for example) “host”.
If you had currently turned on (and if it were at least some cards and/or identities, that you don’t want to see always as autofill suggestions)…:
-
Settings → Autofill → Always (!) show cards as Autofill suggestions on Vault view
-
Settings → Autofill → Always (!) identities as Autofill suggestions on Vault view
… you could also think about whether you need those both always as autofill suggestions, or can turn off one of them or both.
ok. thank you very much. Is there a way to move AUTOFILL list to below my FAVORITES list, which I use every morning to sign into the key apps I use all day? I will study your response carefully to see if I can still use AUTOFILL for its intended purpose, especially since it provides the security of not signing into a fake site. I also note that, although I have been trying to ALWAYS set my URL in BW to the LOGIN page, some sites use a banner on top of the website, which is not in the URL, SOMEHOW…because I am always required to hit the LOGIN button on the page to actually signin. I hope that makes sense, because as you may tell, I am not the sharpest techy in the drawer!
I certainly could do without CARDS and IDENTITIES in the autofill, because I use different email addresses for each account and only show my main personal & business emails in the IDENTITY. And, I don’t sign into the CARDS ever, because I have a specific login for the URL for the card provider, and I use burner cards for each different account, so I do not need the CARDS ever. Maybe I should just remove them, even though they are convenient places to keep such items for records purposes.
Just a short reply to that part: no, there is no possibility to change the order of the sections in the “Vault” view of the extension. It’s always as it is: 1. Autofill suggestions, 2. Favorites, 3. All Items
This sounds highly unusual. You are doing something (whether intentionally or unintentionally) to add a lot of new vault items for existing websites. The best fix would be to stop whatever behavior is resulting in these (presumably unnecessary) items being added to your vault.
Could you please examine the list of Autofill Suggestions for a website that has a large number of entries, and confirm that the entries there are basically all duplicates of the same set of login credentials? Or if not, please provide a more detailed description of these “things [that you] don’t give one hoot in hell about”, then edit a few of them and check what string of text has been stored in the “Website (URI)” field; also click the icon in the right margin of the “Website (URI)” field, and tell us what has been selected there.
