We have a family account with several users on the same computer, and several shared items. While it is true that the currently active user is shown in the upper-right corner, none of us has trained ourselves to look there before using. As such, we frequently go to the bitwarden window and look for an item we can’t find, or that is “wrong” in some way. After fumbling around, we inevitably find that some other user is currently active. Once we change to our own, everything is good.
This is an admittedly minor annoyance, but if someone has a few cycles maybe they can put in a quick mod.
Could be custom color schemes or watermarks. Or just something as simple as being able to select a background color for the search/account bar at top would likely be enough to get noticed immediately when the bitwarden window opens.
Feature name
User-specific background or other visual indicator (in addition to name and initials)
Feature function
Allow each user to select the color of the bar at the top of the window (currently it’s always blue, at least in the windows app).
Sadly, the latest update moved this backward. Now only first two letters for first name appears. So Jane, Jason, Janet, Janice, and Jasper are completely non-distinguishable.
Can you explain what you are referring to? Many years ago, Bitwarden supported the use of Gravatars, but to my knowledge there have been no changes in the user avatar representation in the latest update (2026.5.0). Are you referring to the email addresses that was shown along with the avatar in version 2026.2.x and earlier (removed in 2026.3.x)? I don’t think that the user’s name was ever shown previously.
FYI, you can hover your mouse over the avatar to see the full name, and the color of the avatar can be customized for each user.
And, yes, hovering reveals, but I see no reason for making me take my hands off my keyboard and maneuver my mouse to see something that was unobtrusively visible before. Is this just change for change’s sake?
(I see no option to change color of avatar, and I would still prefer option for even more obvious visual cue such as individualized colors for banners. )
None of this is earth shattering or completely debilitating. It’s just the little thoughtless inconveniences that are introduced for no discernible purpose. Meanwhile they still refuse to give us (or even comment on) highly useful and repeatedly requested improvements like tags/labels.
bottom line: bitwarden continues to disappoint
Also, the same updated caused my keyboard short cuts for Find (ctrl+f), copy username (ctrl+u), and copy pwd (ctrl+p) to stop working, but that’s an issue for another thread.
My best guess (speculation from just another user): there were always some requests for more privacy by default, so it may be a reaction to that. (there are two feature requests that come to my mind regarding that: Option to hide email reference from the UI and Privacy by default)
A thing I don’t quite understand from your initial post here:
I wonder why you also seem to not have a habit of locking/unlocking your respective accounts – and/or using the session timeout settings (time interval and action “Lock”).
With unlocking you had to choose your account and couldn’t confuse them that easily.
