First, go to Settings > Autofill, and ensure that “Show cards as Autofill suggestions on Vault view” is enabled.
Second, open a web page that has a credit card payment form. In theory, the credit cards should now be displayed among (not below) the “Autofill Suggestions” in the browser extension Vault view. This does not always work, however (i.e., the browser extension does not always recognize that card payment input fields are present, and therefore does not display any cards as suggestions for autofilling).
I think it would be helpful to start a new thread (or a GitHub bug report) to document specific payment sites where Bitwarden’s algorithm for showing/hiding card information does not work correctly.
P.S. The same exact issues exist with Identity items.
That wording was from me, a fellow Bitwarden user (who has some moderation privileges on the forum, but otherwise no affiliation with Bitwarden).
For the record, this is what I had written:
This is an omnibus thread for feedback on usability issues in the redesigned UI. Please bear in mind that some changes may just take getting used to, so feedback provided after you have used the new UI for at least several weeks would be more valuable than initial reactions that may be influenced more by lack of familiarity than true UX problems.
The fact is that there have been many changes to the work flow in the browser extension, many for the worse, some for the better. Unfortunately, it is not an uncommon reaction for users to falsely equate unfamiliar = bad (we see that a lot on the forum when we get an influx of new users who’ve just switched from a different password manager and insist that Bitwarden has to be redesigned to match workflows that they’ve been accustomed to from elsewhere). So what I was attempting to convey in the top note is that giving the new design a try would result in more productive feedback than simply posting some knee-jerk reaction about how everything is terrible because it’s different now.
You’ve read something into the note that certainly wasn’t intended. If you have any constructive suggestions for wording that would convey what I was trying to say, but be less likely to be misunderstood, I would love to hear your suggestions.
In the meantime, I am removing from the notice the sentence that offended you.
This my first and hopefully only post on this forum. I am a paying customer, and I will not accept anything less than an option to revert to the original UI.
Totally understand and I apologize if my tone came across as combative there, wasn’t my intention. I was hoping the tone of my overall post conveyed my desire to be constructive and not reactionary, but I should have been more explicit.
Here’s some words, feel free to use any/all/none of that as you see fit
This is an omnibus thread for feedback on usability issues in the redesigned UI. While this may seem a drastic change at first, please give it a try before discounting it wholesale. Constructive feedback is the best way for us to explicitly tell the developers how we use it and what we need, and without giving the new changes a shot, it’s easy to have a knee-jerk reaction. tl;dr - let’s focus on where we go from here instead of the past.
I appreciate what you’ve been doing and I think we can both agree we’re looking forward to positive changes in the app.
These changes make me so angry… what %^%^&^& designed this?
Why is ‘fill’ a tiny little button when the thing you do 90% of the time is fill and now the button opens the item.
Where did the Two Factor copy button go? Why did it go? You know that 2fa to clipboard is not reliable… put it back please!
Here’s a useful upgrade:
Add a clipboard copy button on credit card name and expiration.
Don’t agree. Update was great. Previously and currently cause extension update was reverted - I can’t one-click autofill after search - I’ve to open vault item and press on autofill. Those are two clicks and that’s one of reasons I switched to 1P last year.
For the context - I’ve hundreds of saved items for few sites - they are completely different profiles for different use cases. Every time I want to login the site I know which profile I want and I use search to narrow down the scrolling through “759” vault items saved for specific website. Then I want to use ONE CLICK to autofill, not two clicks…
I actually like the new design. It looks nice and modern, I really disliked the old one. I like retro, but not in software that I’m using daily.
Well, I did like 12.0. Now I was upgraded to 12.1 and the design was changed completely. It is almost completely white, The rounded buttons are now almost completely square, the wideness / compact options are gone etc.
The only thing I am missing from 12.1 other than the looks (12.0 might have had this but I’m not sure) is that when viewing a password everything is black now, before special characters and numbers had different colours, it was easier to read / manually type them is you had to.
If you click the entry it open now and does not autofill. It seems to be consistent everywhere, and if you want to autofill, you still can with the fill button.
Identity fields have a copy button now.
These two alone are a huge improvement (other than the nice looks in 12.0, not the one in 12.1)
I’ve also received the 12.2 update now, and this fixed the design fortunately. So all is well. I hope the special character and number colours get added as well.
I don’t think it was the UX designer’s fault. I think the fault lands on the person that signed off on it. It’s almost like they did no user research before saying “YOLO” and pushing out the update.
Only major inconvenience for me has been the Identity section isn’t always sorted by alphabetical order. Looks like when it doesn’t have fields to autofill, it shows Identity under “Autofill suggestions” and it’s sorted randomly instead of alphabetical order.
Comparing the new UI with additional options like Compact Mode and Quick copy actions (2024.12.2) I came to the conclusion that Vault then has too much of everything - icons, text. I prefer a “cleaner” Vault like a mobile app. It’s good that there is now a choice.
This morning I updated my chrome extension and received 2024.12.1.
I was shocked to see that it’s appearance was like “the old one”. And I thought that bitwarden had rolled back the new version.
Then, later this morning I updated another chrome extension to 2024.12.2 and saw again the new look…
I just wanted to say (and perhaps this will be an unpopular opinion, reading many of the comments posted here in the last days ), that I actually like the new design.
It has some minor annoyances pending polishing, but, as I said, I like it!
I know this comment does not contribute anything useful at all. I Just wanted to compensate a bit so much negativity (which, lets be honest, doesn’t contribute much either, in many cases).
I agree with many of the complaints and appreciate the quick introduction of the “Show quick copy actions on Vault” option to restore the individual copy buttons.
One additional problem – in many cases, the card or identity I want to use to autofill does not end up in the “Autofill suggestions” list. A workaround is for me to set my cards and identities as favorites so they always appear at the top of the vault. However, I then still have to click the overflow menu to choose Autofill, which is an unnecessary extra click. My suggestion is to always show the new “Fill” button on all cards and identities, even when they are not in the “Autofill suggestions” list. Because cards only have two copy buttons and identities have only a single copy dropdown menu, there is plenty of room for a “Fill” button. It makes sense for logins to only have a “Fill” button when they are auto-suggested (as that indicates the URL matches), but cards and identities should always have a “Fill” button because they can be used on any website, even when not auto-suggested.
… as you (@avbiii ) are speaking of auto-fill and identities (and other things):
Yeah, now there is a new (or old) inconsistency regarding auto-fill. In the auto-fill suggestions you have the auto-fill button now. And for other vault items (login, identities, …) you have to open the menu. From an ergonomics standpoint, it is really not “intuitive”/good, to have the same function for different states in different locations, because it requires working memory (where and when you find what…). (and requiring working memory is actually even more problematic than it sounds )
Here in the screenshot I chose an identity as a favourite to illustrate the situation:
… and I don’t know if it was mentioned before: a chosen vault filter get’s lost if the extension window get’s closed and opened again. That can’t be the intended behaviour, can it?
Created an account to comment here. What happened to the browser extension? It’s horrible. It’s cluttered with way too much elements. It’s using random spacing, padding, colors, fonts and font sizes.
