Usability issues (UX) in redesigned UI (2024.12.0)

Hi everyone, my whole family is using Bitwarden for years and I also managed to convince the company I work for to use it. But since this awful UI and UX changes we only have complaints with a product that was formerly the best!

My biggest personal dislike (besides the redesign) is that the chrome extension now completely hangs when I add a new url to an existing login. If I then want to use it, Bitwarden keeps loading endlessly. And the only thing that helps is restarting my browser. I hope there is a fix for this soon because this is unworkable! I am even seriously considering switching to 1Password while I was always a huge fan of Bitwarden! It may have been mentioned on this forum before, but this forum post has become so long that I have not been able to read everything.

In any case, I am glad that we are not the only ones who are very unhappy after the redesign and I sincerely hope that everything can be fixed soon and that this will become my number 1 password app again!

@barthusz Welcome to the forum!

Your problems with the Chrome extension seem to describe this current bug: Chrome extension takes forever to load UI after authenticating and is extremely slow and unresponsive (and that seems to be a problem with Chrome itself – see the thread) PS: … and/or the issue, @dwbit mentioned in the next post!

Hi @barthusz please see 2025.1.0 / 2025.2.0 Browser Extension UI/UX Megathread for updates/customizations based on community feedback.

Regarding the browser extension hanging, that is a separate issue that will be resolved shortly: [PM-17793] Fix Vault Loading by justindbaur · Pull Request #13484 · bitwarden/clients · GitHub

Wasn’t this supposed to have been fixed like two times already? I feel like I’ve been getting notifications about this issue and its fix for months hahaha

I’d like to be constructive, but there is essentially no improvement in the UI changes. I’ve been trying to get used to it, but I just don’t understand the logic. There was nothing I particularly disliked about the previous UI, but the new changes have made several workflows harder with no reward to offset the extra work.

Thanks for the feedback @larkwiot, is there anything in particular you would like passed along to the developers, that isn’t addressed by the customizations here? 2025.1.0 / 2025.2.0 Browser Extension UI/UX Megathread

I missed that, sorry, that does address a lot of the things. The one thing it doesn’t touch on is that when there are no logins associated with the current site, BW used to put cards above “all items”, near the top, I don’t see any customization options to make it do that again.

If I understand you correctly, that should be addressed by Settings → Autofill → Always show cards/identities as Autofill suggestions on Vault view

(kind of redundant, but that should lead to always showing the cards and identities…)

And that needs at least extension version 2025.2.x, I think.

Is that available for Firefox? Firefox reports my bitwarden version is 2024.12.4 but says it was last updated Jan 25th, 2025.

This doesn’t address the user comment. In this case this will always shows the cards above , the user stated only when there isn’t a login Match then show the cards.

That was never the behavior in the old UI. @larkwiot may be misremembering, and the options configuration mentioned by @Nail1684 above does result in behavior that is quite similar to the old UI behavior. That being said, the new “always show” feature is not without problems.

@larkwiot et al.: The update to extension version 2025.2.0 arrived on Firefox. (as always, one can manually trigger the update or wait until it updates automatically)

Ok, thank you, but if we are still forced this interface, can you at least make it more functional ?
Like for example, when you click on the extension why do we need all the items to be listed ??? just to take an extra 2 seconds until it loads ?
Or another thing, in the good old interface it used to, when you sync the vault you get a notification - and if you click on it, it would disappear. Now you have to wait until it disappears, or hitt that huge X button on every notification to disappear.
There must be ways to make it as fast and efficient as the old interface.

You don’t need all items to be listed, since they (and the Favorites section as well) were made “collapsible”:

(and that “choice” persists then until you change it)

I know about it and I use it, so my conclusion is that the extension is just slower all together and not because of this list “All items”

@kreesher

There is a setting to restore the prior fill behavior, along with many of the other complaints. Instructions are available as the first post in the current megathread.

Was responding when your post got removed. Please understand that threats against people are not tolerated on this forum, even if just by job title.

Please add back the option to add additional fields WITHOUT having a seperate pop-up window where you have to name the field first, before you’re allowed to enter data. It was very handy to create and manage multiple fields at once without some silly extra popup window.

Also, what happened to being able to re-order the web URI’s?

@0x_0 Welcome to the forum!

It seems they are aware of that and work on it:

@0x_0 Welcome to the forum!

I second this motion.

To clarify, this was not possible in the old UI — it is a new feature being developed.

@DenBesten thanks for your reply clarifying this. Sorry from my previous comment but was something I didn’t see any previous poll - so in case I didn’t check sorry and apologies again
