Usability issues (UX) in redesigned UI (2024.12.0)

Yeah, you can do that right now by making the identities “favorites” (–> vault item → view → edit → “star symbol”).

The old auto-fill behaviour will get back as an option Usability issues (UX) in redesigned UI (2024.12.0) - #472 by dwbit but whether this will be possible then for all items, I don’t know… @dwbit do you know more to the current plans for “how far” the option reaches (auto-fill suggestions, favorites, all vault items??) ?

This applies to items that currently have the ‘fill’ button on them so that you can customize your autofill experience for the related website.

This - so much this - WTF were they thinking. If Bitwarden wants to keep my sub, I want these buttons back. Shoving them in a submenu is a stupid thing to do and makes Bitwarden about as useful for everyday use as 1password, and I hate 1password.

Hey @Routhinator here’s how to choose your copy action behaviour:

Settings > Appearance > Show quick copy actions on Vault

Ok there they are. I wish the app would have prompted the user before altering such a critical functionality.

Completely irrelevent. Even if it were a penny a month.

Well at least the app is listening  The team has implemented dozens of user suggestions in a couple of months. No other company reacts so quickly to use feedback

If you want you can get a UX closer to the old one (including other improvement, like wider extension) by changing a few settings: Usability issues (UX) in redesigned UI (2024.12.0) - #107 by FaviFake

Thanks for that info!

Yeah, agreed. Faith restored. I am happy again. Implemented all of those changes to get what I loved back.

Created an account just to say that I hate the new UI redesign. It is an example of everything wrong with modern UI design. I’ve tried rolling back my extension version, but apparently the UI is not tied to that, as I’m still getting the terrible new design even on older versions.

Anybody have a solution on getting the old version back?

Edit: On firefox you have to uninstall the new one first, if you just install the old one over the new one you are still stuck with the new UI. I am now back to a usable version of the extension with auto-updates turned off. Bitwarden needs to fix this ASAP, in the meantime I am going to be forwarding all questions and complaints from my users straight to bitwarden support. Let them answer for the mess that they created.

You can uninstall the new version and sideload the version with your preferred UI here:

Short comparison (for the new extension: in standard width)…

Without deep analysis - and many things were mentioned already - but:

  • the font was indeed better readable (was it even bold? - apart from size, horizontal spacing, etc. … PS: and I think I read that from @grb : the height of the small letters is reduced in the new extension - I think I even can see that now in the comparison)
  • the spaces are… shocking at first glance
  • contrast got really worse :face_with_raised_eyebrow: (I think that also contributes to my first point, that the text is worse readable…)
  • ???

And, besides all other points of the fill-button, it is also language/translation dependent - and I guess, the English “Fill” (instead of my German “Ausfüllen”), would be near to the original horizontal space:

But as written - unfortunate, that it depends also on the length of the translation, how you experience that button (again, beside all other considerations here).

PS: Compact mode is not nearly as “compact” as the extension was before… But where is the news.

PPS: BTW, the relations of the screenshots are all unchanged.

Hey, welcome to the forum.

They are fixing it, see this message from the Bitwarden team regarding features currently in development:

It sounds like you are managing multiple users. If they prefer the old design, you can tell them to tweak a few settings to make the extension behave more like the way they’re used to: Usability issues (UX) in redesigned UI (2024.12.0) - #107 by FaviFake

I hadn’t even noticed the contrast, that’s pretty significant. Should be an easy fix though.

The new UI for the browser extensions work fine for me. The only issue I have is that the Favorites should always appear in alphabetical order, not in most recently used order.

That will be reversed with one of the next releases (so that it will be alphabetical again):

That’s great, thanks for letting me know. I’ve been able to work with it the way it is now but alphabetical would be better. Is there any time frame as to when the next release will be available?

Yep, just logged and noticed the extension update. Wow, thanks for this turd of Christmas present with this UI BitWarden. Lump of coal seems pretty good compared to this mess I now have to look at. Specifically signed up to community forums to up vote peoples comments. Guess what a joy that was generating and saving my password and account info with the new UI.

Nailed it exactly. They forced everyone to the new design. Then they bought some features back, but no way to say “Hey - there is now an option to turn this feature on”. In fact, the only way I new that the quick icons are back was by checking back in this thread. Definitely agree with an option to switch to the new mode, and not forced. Putting features back that were taken away should come back, not come back but be hidden in a menu.

The new UI needs to go - the lack of contrast, the wasted space, less legible default font, etc.

And rolling it out right before Christmas? Never roll out a big feature on a Friday, or before a major holiday. Come on, this is basic stuff.

Give us an option to go back to the old UI, or I’ll find an alternative to paying for Bitwarden - I renew in February.
