When I tried to change a password/regenerate a new password to edit from my old one, and I get kind of stuck. I clicked on the item to edit the password for, click on the button with the arrows around the star that says “generate password” when you hover over it, and a popup box prompts me to pick “password” or “passkey.” I imagine all of that is normal. I can click either button to pick either one, but that’s as far as I can go. I can’t scroll, the little “generate password” circle spins on the main screen, and the rest of the buttons are greyed out, and I can’t go any further. This would be shown in the picture but I can’t get it to upload.
I also tried doing things like relaunching the password generator, refreshing the page, and logging out and back in. I also gave support a less detailed help request.
What version of the browser extension are you using, what browser are you using, and what is you server version and setup?
I use Brave Browser. I am about to update my browser to see if this fixes the problem
As far as I can tell I don’t have an browser extensions?
And I’m not tech savvy enough to know what you mean by “server version and setup,” sorry
Brave version 1.79.126
Upon further search I have a media router, WebTorrent, and other extensions are turned off
I think, then you are not self-hosting either? – Or put another way, your BW account is either on the BW US/vault.bitwarden.com server region or EU/vault.bitwarden.eu server region, right?
About which of the BW apps are you talking then? If you are not sure, here is an overview on the official Bitwarden download page: Download the Bitwarden Password Manager App for iPhone, Android, Chrome, Safari, and More | Bitwarden
And here a short summary:
- the BW browser extensions work as “extensions”/add-ons in your browser(s)
- the BW desktop apps are a “standalone app”
- the BW mobile apps are used on smartphones and tablets (Android & iOS/iPadOS)
- the BW web vault (or web app) is meant, when you go to your browser and open and login to either vault.bitwarden.com or vault.bitwarden.eu directly (or to your self-hosted instance, if you are self-hosting your Bitwarden server)
- and there is the Command-Line-Interface (CLI) also…
If you get some kind of a passkey-prompt / popup box, that sounds like one of the browser extensions.
PS: In Brave, if you enter brave://extensions/
in the URL/search bar, you should get an overview about all browser extensions in your Brave browser. Bitwarden is not among them?
You chose the tag “app:browser” for your topic, which signifies that you are having an issue with Bitwarden’s browser extension. If you are using a different Bitwarden app, please specify which one (Web Vault, mobile app, or Desktop app), and let us know the version number of that app.
You chose the tag “app:self-hosted” for your topic, which signifies that you have set up your own Bitwarden server for hosting your Bitwarden account(s). When you log in to your Bitwarden account(s) from any device, at the bottom of the first page of the login form, you can see the domain of the server that you are logging in to:
In your case, do you see bitwarden.com
, bitwarden.eu
, or something else (i.e., a domain that you own)?
