Firefox: BW extension 2025.11.1 not prompting for passkeys on any site

Thank you… The downgrade is working as a temporary workaround… :slightly_smiling_face:

Using passkeys to log in with Firefox — what happened?

I have a bunch of passkeys I store in Bitwarden, I set them up via BW extension in Firefox Linux. They worked for logging in at some point.

Now, whenever a website (e.g. github) is asking for the key, Firefox Linux wants a physical key and DOESN’T trigger the Bitwarden extension. Vivaldi (chromium) + BW extension intercepts this well. My question is, what happened, and how do I get this working again?

I’m worried by the posts saying “Firefox is still not supported” because it worked before.

@Anibyl I moved your post into the thread for that current bug… please also have a look at the mod notice attached to the first post.

I appreciate it, downgrading helped.

It’s worth leaving a message in that topic, because it’s the one that people can discover via web search.

UPD: actually, there’s something pointing to here. Good.

:+1:

Yeah… but not a bad idea to make it even more obvious. I’ll think about it. (and observe the situation :eyes:)

Perfect, thanks for this.

However for me, one additional step was required before it would work.

I had to restart Firefox, and then it worked!

Downgrading and turning off automatic updates has allowed me to use paskeys again on Firefox on linux again for the time being.

@grb I had already done it!

Hey guys,

I have a few passkeys stored in Bitwarden, and everything was working perfectly until a couple of days ago.
Since then, every time a website sends a passkey request, it gets intercepted by Windows Security / Windows Hello – which I never set up in the first place and have zero interest in using.

(Example screenshot attached)

Of course if I click “Cancel” the request gets denied.

My setup:

  • Windows 11

  • Firefox 145.0.2 (64-bit)

  • Bitwarden 2025.11.1

I’ve searched around but the only “solution” I can find is disabling passkeys completely in Firefox with security.webauthn.enable_webauthn = false – which obviously defeats the whole purpose.

Any ideas how to force Firefox/Bitwarden to handle passkeys again instead of Windows Hello stealing them?

Thanks!

Thank you for the quick workaround, my passwordess logins started working post downgrade.

I confirm that the issue is reproducible.

This is a known bug, and a fix for this issue is already in the works. In the meantime, you can use the instructions above to restore passkey functionality in your Firefox extension.

I am having the same issue, just started a few days back. I cannot add a passkey, as Firefox seems to send it directly to Windows which then asks for a hardware key; also cannot use an existing passkey that I know to be in BW.
I am not self-hosted. I have checked the notification setup, and passkeys are checked/on.
Versions Windows 10, Firefox 145.0.2 BW Version: 2025.11.1, BW Server version: 2025.11.1, and I have checked for updates.

Hi Folks,
I’ve been using Bitwarden for a couple of years now and for the last year or so, I have been using it as my primary authenticator for storing passkeys and using them on all the different websites I visit.

About a day ago, passkey functionality in all my Firefox browsers on Windows 11 stopped working. Chrome based browsers seem unaffected and are still working as expected.

What Happens?

I go to a website login that supports passkey and log in with the passkey feature. Instead of the Bitwarden Passkey Prompt popping up, it pops up the Windows Hello dialog.

Does this Happen On more than One device?

Yes, I have tested this across multiple devices. All running Windows 11 and Firefox.

Does this happen across all domains?

Yes, I have tested the three domains I most frequently accessed in the past. All three of them are failing as of a day ago.

What Troubleshooting Steps have you taken?

  1. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox.
  2. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Bitwarden Firefox Plugin
  3. I have created a new Firefox Profile.
  4. I have deleted the passkey and recreated it in a Chrome Browser.
  5. I have rebooted all devices.
  6. I have checked the plugin autofill/blocked domains list (it’s empty)

I moved your post into the thread about that current bug. See above for more info and the recommended workaround. There’s also a staff notice attached to the first post.

Just a note. Confirmed BW extension 2025.11.1 is not a problem on newest Edge, I only see the problem on Firefox (not tried other browsers). Also confirmed going back to BW extension 2025.11.0 on Firefox worked after browser restart.

hello everyone, i fall for this bug too, downgrade help me… and is good to see, the fix is coming… thanks in advance for the fast resolve.
