Yes, this is the only feature so far that I really miss from LastPass. Seems like a glaring oversight to me.
wow 4 years later and this has not been implemented yet
+1. This is my #1 feature request.
It would be sweet if the password added by Bitwarden could have a carriage return appended to it. This way the entered data would launch immediately.
Really great feature to have. Any news regarding the plans to implement it?
Yes please!
It would seem if you do not use auto-fill and manually select the login, submitting what you have selected would be implicit. You really shouldnât have to add an additional click/keystroke.
Perhaps the safest and most flexible would be to have a separate âSubmit on fillâ option for each defined login. Then, it would be separate from auto-fill and not used where a miss-fire might be problematic.
I also really want this feature
i have this feature in roboform, and the idea that iâll have to maybe double the number of clicks by switching to bw is giving me pause. Seems needlessly inconvenient to have to tell the page to submit after clicking in bw to enter the un/pw.
You donât actually have to do any âclicking in Bitwardenâ to fill in the log-in credentials (e.g., if youâve enabled autofill on page load). Personally, I donât use autofill on page load (too many security risks), but I use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+L
) to autofill the login credentials, and then I can usually submit the form by hitting the Enter
key.
+1 for this feature
Upvoting this feature request from 2018. Having recently moved from LastPass to Bitwarden, I was quite disappointed to know that this very useful feature is not implemented.
Are there any updates from the developers on this? Itâs been 5 years and I donât see any progress here or comments on here from the BW development team. Has this even been discussed and/or part of the roadmap?
Reddit topic where I discussed this same thing and provided some examples: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitwarden/comments/1393kx6/does_bw_have_the_ability_to_simulate_the_enter/
Happy to answer any further questions.
+1 this feature. This is the only feature I miss from lastpass
Having come from LastPass and trying out BitWard, I was surprised that BitWarden doesnât have this feature â i.e., to tell BitWarden to auto-submit credentials for a specific site. Itâs very convenient to bypass the login process completely for some sites.
I would add a twist to this request: Not only allow âauto-submitâ to be enabled for specific sites, but allow a modifier key (e.g., holding down shift or control) to temporarily disable the behavior.
While I appreciated LastPassâ auto-submit capability 99% of the time I used it, there are a couple sites that I benefitted from auto-submit but would occasionally want to log in with an alternate account and preventing the auto-submit was cumbersome (disable auto-submit, log in with alternate credentials, re-enable auto-submit so it works again next time) and a âprevent auto-submitâ modifier key would be handy in those cases.
5 YEARS since this feature was requested. Obviously this isnât going to happen. I canât imagine why the developers are so against this feature as to completely ignore it for 5 years. Too Bad as itâs the only reason I have to keep Lastpass installed.
Does anyone have any recommendations for other password managers that have the auto-login feature and are cheaper that Lastpass or free?
I pay for Bitwarden, and so have expectations that when a feature is requested, there is at least a follow-up or reply as to itâs status. Itâs not ok to just ignore the request.
Being that Iâm a paying member, I would also like this functionality added, as itâs built into so many other products.
After all, my paying for the product helps pay for stuff like this, does it not?
Thank you!
EDIT: Iâve also submitted a support ticket for this. I think the community deserves a response.
Hi all - the team has seen this feedback. One of the reasons there is hesitation on moving forward is that automatically submitting a form induces a security risk when the website is compromised. Having users submit the form is another checkpoint for the user to review that the end application doesnât look suspicious.
That said, the team can review this again and see if thereâs an approach we can take that doesnât induce a security risk. Security is the highest priority at Bitwarden.
I think there is a security risk when the password auto fills and there is a âshow passwordâ on the website in question and when the permission is set to âview only, except passwordâ. This would apply to over 50% of the web these days.
The above just makes the permission setting redundant
Just have an option like Dashlane that says âauto-sumbitâ and make it so it must be enabled if there is the âview only, except passwordâ permission set. Otherwise, refuse to fill in the password.
When I use Bitwarden to fill the login credentials ([ctrl+shift+s] or select from icon), I still need to hit [enter] or click a [login] button to proceed with the login.
Enpass manages to automate this. You use [ctrl+/] to fill the credentials and the login proceeds automatically, because Enpass adds the [enter] character. This also works with outlook.com, which uses a Two-step login (username first, password next).
An option to âAutomatically add [enter]â would be nice.
Itâs a good idea, but Iâd like this to remain an option, if possible off by default. The reason is because when you have multiple logins matching the same URL, itâs good to be able to review before logging in.
Agreed. The team could consider to implement this as a general option or a per item option.
