Am I the only one finding Bitwarden in Safari almost unusable at this point? Almost every single time I open the extension, it prompts me to reauthenticate and then even when I do, it stays locked. If I close the authentication window and then reopen the extension, I get a roulette situation where sometimes it opens fine and sometimes it will make me reauthenticate. And main app is open and unlocked and I previously unlocked the extension moments before (it locks when transitioning from one page of a site to the next).
It is extremely incovenient, and Iāve taken to loosening the restrictions on the app to the point where I set it to ānever require a passwordā. Is anyone else having issues like this?
I have the same here. I have to close the app every time and also reactivate the browser plugin for Safari (mobile).
In addition, when I click on the Bitwarden āshare iconā for the first time, only the user name is accepted in the input mask, but not the password. The process has to be repeated.
If, for example, the login only consists of a password, it does not enter anything, but displays a selection menu for me to copy.
So you are talking about iOS here?
On mobile, the mobile apps should be used - and not the browser extensions.
Please clarify, if you use the mobile app or the browser extension, because at least some of your problems on mobile may be because youāre using the browser extension.
I have installed the Bitwarden app as well as the browser plugin on all devices. Until the update mentioned above, the semi-automated filling works perfectly on iOS/iPadOS.
Login: first step: username/password, afterwards - if necessary - OTP (paste).
One workaround seems to be, to use Safari 18 (Beta), at least on MacOS and possibly on iOS?! And a second workaround: disabling inline-auto fill for the time being.
I guess at this point I can not really help more, as Iām not using MacOS/iOS myself.
The latest and greatest Bitwarden version was (in your case, I guess) 2024.8.2 (Desktop/MacOS) yesterday when you wrote. And yesterday already the first new 2024.9.x versions arrived, though not yet for the desktop app I guessā¦
Did you try Safari 18 Beta as mentioned as a workaround above?
Well, count me shocked and a little embarrassed that my version of Bitwarden was out of date. Iām surprised that nothing triggered an autoupdate. I have since upgraded to 2024.8.2 (although I think Safari keeps saying 2024.8.1 in the extensions tab for some reason) and for the moment, I am happy to report I no longer see the issue I was having. The extension is unlocked and showing the correct site when I expect it to.
Will monitor, but so far so good. To everyone else out there, make sure you have the latest versions!
Sequoia 15.0 with Safari 18.0 resolve some of the problems, though I support the view of one of the posters redirected here that there is now an unusual number of formerly working sites no longer accepting autofill. Given they worked before, and there are a few, this appears to be a new Bitwarden problem rather than a revised site problem.
I have also noticed occasionally the Bitwarden app invoked from its menu icon will appear without a menu in sight ā the menu bar goes black (or white, according to setting). Anyone else seeing this? The workaround is to quit and restart the app.
2024.9.1 has not yet made it into the app store so this is with 2024.8.2
@Nail1684, I had previously tried the on/off without success here. Deleting and re-downloading Bitwarden apps on all devices after the OS upgrade got me to where I am. I have not tried the sideloaded extension given Safari wants its extensions via the app from the store, and Iām cool with that. Iāll keep being patient.
The vanishing menus seems different but I will wait for a couple of people to confirm the same experience before filing anything.
Yesā¦ and, no noā¦ I just wasnāt sure you saw the actual post after what you wrote. - And for Safari side, you already mentioned the newest MacOS/iOS updates to resolve some of the issuesā¦ hopefully the auto-fill issues etc. get a fix soon then.
Ah. I meant that that progress had occurred with the software upgrades, barring the glitch for me that on/off did not work when I tried it so I went straight to reinstalling. The vanishing menu trick is a digression.
