Vault Item Labels (tags)

As much as I look forward to this change, I’m a little worried about tags replacing folders. First, I expect tags to be many, and messy, so it wouldn’t be very practical to use them as folders. At the moment I have 4 folders and it’s easy to navigate my vault this way, but I expect to have many more tags. Ideally, I’d like to keep both folders and tags and have them work together. I also wonder how the transition will be made. I hope that the existing folders won’t just get deleted and at least get converted to tags.

Rest assured they won’t be deleted! Folders is confusing for many users currently, and will be converted to tags that can be used to easily organize items in a similar way but with far more functionality.

Is this mean this feature is nearly completed and will be rolled out soon?

Hey Jason I don’t have an ETA but we will announce on our channels when more information is available, thanks for checking in :+1:

Wonderful news that this is under construction. I have been also requesting this feature with my email provider (a small open source project that I pay for, similar to BW) for ages. So much more useful than folders!

side note: who is your email provider?

This will be an awesome feature. I can add tags for the accounts that use my yubikeys, which are stuck at SMS 2FA, etc… If I could see all the tags for each account when looking at the vault list, then by quickly scrolling I’d know which accounts I should be checking to see if they’ve added 2FA (or which ones I need to change if for example I lose a particular yubikey).

I’m also missing the tagging system. I’m using enpass for private and it’s so comfortable to use it with tags. In our company we are using bitwarden and there are so many passwords that are very difficult to handle with just the folder system. Would by nice to complement the folder with tags.

Why does it take so long to implement tags? Have the programmers given up?

I am another person who needs the tag resource, for the reasons already presented, that is, being able to configure more than one tag for the same entry.
Thanks!

I know you guys are working hard on this feature. Any chance we could get a status update? This morning I woke up to find an update to my 1Password 7 install to version 7.9.10. With this version come the warning that July 2023 the 1Password Classic extension will be deprecated and no longer work.

Tag support is the main thing holding me back from migrating over to BW from 1Pw7. There are other things too that make life easier which BW doesn’t support yet (eg: ability to toggle password conceal), but those I can live without for now.

Thanks in advance for your efforts.

I am so happy this is getting implemented. I really look forward to multiple labels per vault item.
Is there a rough ETA?

Thank you for your efforts !!!

Thanks all, the team is working on several core components and we will be sure to share an updated timeline when additional information is available. Rest assured that vault item labels is on the current roadmap.

Things are slightly different for me. Been a premium user for years. At the end of the last year I couldn’t wait anymore so I migrated to 1Password. Their shitty autofill on mobile is what slapped me back to Bitwarden. For now, I’ll wait.

Hey @AyneHancer please remember that the Bitwarden team is made of real people working on many initiatives, of which the priority is keeping Bitwarden users safe and secure. Rest assured vault item labels (on the roadmap) are coming :+1:

At what stage is the tags feature? Can we expect it in 2023?

It’s on the linked roadmap for the second half of 2023.

Delayed again. I understand very well that you guys are having a lots of tasks on your hand, as I’m in the development industry as well, but for end users this is still nonetheless a very tiring wait. I don’t want to sounds too negative, so here’s a virtual ice-cream for everyone in the team :icecream:

Thanks all, please know the team is working on lots of items behind the scenes to keep it running securely for everyone and that vault item labels is on the current roadmap.

i don’t think it should be a replacement, you should keep both.
But, if i am asked which one i prefer over the other, of course tags >> folders/subfolders
