A few material differences:
-
The space available for displaying long folder names is now cut in half.
-
To view items in a folder that also contains nested folders, an extra step is required (clicking “View items in TopFolder”).

Okay. In the filter and with “wide” or “extra wide” that is at least better…
I don’t see any “View items in TopFolder” setting / option ??
In the filter, I can choose the nested folder, if entering the parent (?) folder.
BTW, now one can even see that there is a nested folder:
I just checked in the old extension: there you couldn’t see (in the vault “tab” and folder list) that a folder even contained a nested folder. So, one little improvement here, I would say.
No… If I opened my Vault in the old UI, I saw my folders that I created to organize my vault items.
If I open my Vault in the new UI, all I see are every item, unorganized.

I get that. But still: in the new filter you see and can choose all your folders (more or less like before) - and if you set a filter to a folder, you see all items of that folder (more or less like before). One could say organized.

As I mentioned in my comment, this happens when viewing “items in a folder that also contains nested folders”. For example:
Level1 (folder)
Item1 (item)
Item2 (item)
Level2 (folder)
Item3 (item)
Item4 (item)
To see Item1
or Item2
, you must click “View items in level1”:
Extra steps nobody asked for.
I think that implied in @nelph0nd’s complaint about the “missing” folders is that they would prefer not to be presented with a display of “All Items” when opening the Vault page in the extension.
I would propose the following fix for this issue (which, as some have pointed out, represents a security/privacy concern), and which may also ameliorate the delays in opening the browser extension when there is a large number of vault items:
Instead of showing “All Items”, the area below the “Favorites” section should show only those vault items that do not have an assigned folder. Thus, for someone who values privacy, they will be able to assign all vault items to folders, thereby hiding them from the Vault view; to take a step further, folders could be made into subfolders under a top-level folder, which would also hide the subfolder names from the default Vault view. Alternatively, a user who prefers to have all of their vault items displayed on the Vault page can achieve this by not using folders.
Extra steps nobody asked for.
Before, you didn’t have to click on a folder for it to open?
As I mentioned in my comment, this happens when viewing “items in a folder that also contains nested folders”.
Okay, I see what you mean. I had no nested folders and only now tried it. - Maybe another thing for the list of improvements to reduce the times you have to click to achieve something.
I don’t have anything further to add, but wanted to insert a thank you to all of the UX/UI professionals here offering their feedback. You are putting the frustrations many of us are experiencing from these unforced errors into eloquent, understandable context.
Feature Request: Do not show “All Items” on Vault page
I followed the vault hours an hour ago. It seems, they have already gotten that feedback and think about a solution. (if I understood it correctly)
Instead of showing “All Items”, the area below the “Favorites” section should show only those vault items that do not have an assigned folder. …
Personally, I would prefer some option or setting, to switch it on or off the see all (or none) vault items (to never see all items when you now only have the vault tab seems impractical - BTW, overall, in think it is not bad to have everything in the vault tab… as I used the old Firefox extension today, I found it weird that you have items in two tabs and have to change tabs… ).
The filters (or distinct settings/options) may even have the potential to set individual settings for your preferred view of the “vault” tab (instead of defining one view of the “vault” tab for all users) ?! (BTW not my idea - I think someone else wrote this somewhere here…)
We are almost there. If the developers can please do the following (or add options for the following):
change the Fill button to be Edit.
And if one just wants to View item details without entering the Edit mode, where would one click?
Ah perhaps they can change Fill to be View and within Viewing there should be an Edit.
And if one clicks on the item name for a listed vault item that does not have a URI match (i.e., an item not listed among the “Autofill Suggestions”), should it still autofill (to provide a consistent UX), or should it instead do something else (to avoid the risk of leaking credentials to a phishing site)?
+1
This was the thing that bothered me the most on this new version. It is backwards!
I am not sure what the solution is for this in the new UI. But the Bitwarden Chrome Extension was working very well yesterday with the old UI. The new UX is inverted from what users expect when clicking to fill. Maybe the Devs can simply make the Fill button much larger.
Like make the entire item clickable to autofill, and replace the fill button with a “view” button instead.
I am not sure what the solution is for this in the new UI. But the Bitwarden Chrome Extension was working very well yesterday with the old UI.
The way it worked in the old UI was that when on the Tab page (roughly equivalent to the “Autofill Suggestions” area in the new Vault page), clicking the item name would autofill the information. However, when on the (old) Vault page, the same action (clicking the item name) would cause the item to be opened for viewing. Having the same action produce two completely different results depending on context is confusing, and poor UX.
In the new UI, if the same action (clicking the item name) produces two completely different results depending on where on the page the item is displayed, that would be even more confusing, since there are even fewer context clues to allow the user to predict the outcome of clicking the item.
