Unable to login to browser extension (chromium) with passkey on linux

Hi,

I just updated the browser extension eager to try out the new login with passkey. But what a letdown…

No matter what I do I’m unable to login with it. I recorded the screen:

simplescreenrecorder-2025-11-17_14.56.54

This is with chromium (on linux), it’s exactly the same with google chrome (also on linux).

When I click the login with passkey button it asks me to touch my yubikey bio. I do and then after the popup closes nothing happens.

As a matter of fact, When I re-open the extension the yubikey prompt popup keeps appearing and I can not do anything to close it in order to choose another login method.

The only thing that works is closing the browser and reopening it (and not trying to login with passkey again, of course).

Is it working for anyone else? with what kind of passkey?

PS.: the yubikey itself works, because I can login to the web vault with it.

Thanks.

I only tried it two times so far – 1x on Brave and 1x on Edge – but so far it works without any problem. (Win 11 25H2)

PS: the passkey also is on a YubiKey. – And Windows Security doesn’t open the QR code route like it happens in your animation.

[Just for the record: I posted this before someone added “on linux” to the title  …]

@kpiris Thanks for the report. I reproduced this.

@kpiris I just read today – somewhere… can’t find it at the moment – that popping out the extension might work (–> as a workaround).

PS: I think it was this PR (which probably will be the fix for Linux here?!):

As of extension version 2025.12.1, the problem no longer occurs for me in the bw browser extension in chrome on linux but it still occurs for me in the bw browser extension in the native chrome browser of chromeos (also using 2025.12.1). So I’m assuming that a fix came out in extension version 2025.12.1 (is that correct?), but it appears to me that the fix was only partial (it appears an additional fix is still needed in order for the bitwarden extension to work as expected within the native chrome browser of chromeos.)

This information was added into the github thread linked above. But I’m not proficient at seeing how things are tracked on github, so I’m not sure whether this feedback has been captured in the right place.

It works for me.

I can login with a passkey (with a yubikey bio) with chrome on my chromebook, without popping out the extension (since 2025.12.1). I just logged out and back in to (re-)check.

Strange… :person_shrugging:
