I noticed that whenever I’m on a website with multiple logins. mail.google.com for example. whenever I search for one of my logins autofill suggestions don’t show up anymore, it doesn’t search through the autofill suggestions, it searches the entire vault. Why! Please switch back to search the items only matching the domains (autofill suggestions), and all items should appear underneath like it was before!!
It may have something to do with concerns and preferences expressed in this feature request.
To be fair, the prioritizing of autofill suggestions in search results was a relatively new behavior, which was only available for a little over a year (it was introduced with the 2025 UI redesign).
The best solution would probably be to have a user-defined setting in the browser extension preferences.
Hello, can someone help me solve this issue? Previously, when I searched, the Fill button appeared next to the result. Now, when I search for a user and want to click Fill, the button no longer appears. Is there any way to fix this
This seems like a bug. I think something changed in the way they are checking the URIs on desktop. I have no trouble on my phone autofilling but on desktop (MacOS, Safari) I will launch the site from the saved URI and it will complain that the URIs do not match even though they do.
So it seems the reason none of the autofills are showing is because Bitwarden can’t find any matching URIs in this latest update.
Okay, good news is we have some clarity now from Bitwarden: per this comment on that “bug” report on GitHub, the “missing” autofill suggestions when searching is now the expected behaviour of the software.
And as they wrote: if we want to have that changed (again), someone would have to open a feature request about that. (if there isn’t an older one, that might still be valid now)
Personal remark: The missing autofill suggestions section when searching is the one thing (and I personally probably can live with that) – but to even show those items in the search results that match with the current domain you’re on in the browser without the “Fill” button / “autofill functionality”, is a decision I fail to understand for now.
They should just put a Fill button (or enable click-item-to-fill) for every vault item in the Vault tab (no matter where it appears). If there is a URI match, clicking should immediately autofill and close the extension window. If there is no match, then the new “Confirm Autofill” prompt should appear. Autofilling is such a fundamental functionality for a password manager, that it doesn’t make sense to have to hunt for this function in the “More Options” menu…
I want to do a search in the vault with the bitwarden extension in the Chrome browser on a Windows 11 desktop computer, for a web site such as Lowes. I type in Lowes into the Search field, then click on the launch icon, the Vault disappears as the Lowes website appears. I then bring up the Lowes login page and click on the Bitwarden extension. The launch logo is still there, but I need the fill logo. I have to remove my search term and go down to Lowes where it now shows the fill logo which I can now click on. I do not want to do a cut & paste for the username and the password fields.
I’ve moved your post into a corresponding thread on that new behaviour. See above for the discussion so far – including a new feature request which is addressing this to a degree.
Not sure if I should post in this thread or create a new one. But I found this when coming here to look for reports of what I’m experiencing with auto-fill.
I’ve been used to searching the Bitwarden browser extension for sites I want to visit and using the jump-link to take me there. And then, when logging on, using auto-fill for my creds in the logon dialogue.
But I’ve noticed that the auto-fill button is no longer displayed like it used to be. I then figured out that this is because there is still text in the search box. I can clear the text from the search box and then the auto-fill button will display as expected. While “workable”, it is a few extra steps and a change in behavior from the past.
I can reproduce this in Firefox and Edge. This happens for any and all websites I need to login to.
