Seamless Browser Extension or Addon

Feature name

  • Seamless Browser Extension or Addon

Feature function

  • What will this feature do differently? All Right-Click seamlessly without 2nd Vault login
  • What benefits will this feature bring? Faster access to destination URL website
  • Remember to add a tag for each client application that will be affected

Feature description

  • Should be able to Auto-Fill directly from step 2 to launch tab with desired authentication credentials.
  • Should be able to use right-click extension/addon shortcut without 2nd unlock of vault.
  • See example workflow below

  1. Open browser (Extension/Addon is installed)
  2. Open new blank tab, provide key to unlock vault
  3. Search for an entry, click on the URI (URL), copy or launch
  4. Open target site (requires authentication)
  5. Right-click to Bitwarden, expand to Auto-Fill or Username and/or Password) BUT! Bitwarden requires ANOTHER iteration to open vault to allow Extension/Addon to copy from vault (NOT SEAMLESS)
  6. Right-click AGAIN, expand Auto-Fill (this time it works, but how many extra steps to get here?!)

Is there a reason why you don’t just directly unlock to the browser extension and launch the URL from there? And you can save additional steps by using the Ctrl+Shift+L shortcut to autofill the login credentials.

The workflow should look like this:

  1. Click browser extension icon (or type Ctrl+Shift+Y) to open the browser extension to its unlock page, and enter the password or PIN to unlock.

  2. Search for a login entry in the browser extension, and click the “Launch” icon to launch the site.

  3. Type Ctrl+Shift+L to autofill the login credentials, and hit Enter key to complete login process.

Perhaps the gist of your request is that you would like for the unlocking of one Bitwarden client (e.g., the web vault) to also unlock all other clients (e.g., the browser extensions). If so, you may want to vote for the existing Feature Request linked below:

Just skip step 2 - there is no reason to open your web vault. Rely on the browser extension to autofill your credentials.

Closing for now, but @geo feel free to provide more detail if the posts above do not resolve the issue for you.
