I am using Bitwarden for a while now. Until now I had an old Android phone, where I couldn’t define the passkey app, so I didn’t use this feature, yet.
No I switched to a Samsung Galaxy S25, and there I can choose Bitwarden as my Password and Passkey manager.
Now I tried to turn on Passkey for ebay. Note: I am using Ebay for many years now, so my Bitwarden database includes many Ebay entries, for the entire family.
So what happens is the following:
I went into Ebay, Secure Login, trying to activate Passkey
Bitwarden is choosed as my vault, my fingerprint is needed now
Then I am redirected to an Bitwarden overview, showing all my entries which are possible matched for com.ebay.mobile
No matter if I pick my personal entry or go to + for adding a new one, Ebay as well as Passkey are stating that an error occured, but no further details
This might be a security or permission thing, because what I noticed if I go to + for adding a new entry, this new entry is not created. The existing entries are in my vault but nothing new, so maybe something got not the right permission for doing things in the other app?
Hi there, just to double check, have you enabled the following?
Disable and reenable the toggles for ‘Autofill services’ (choose Bitwarden) and ‘Chrome autofill integration’ (choose other services), and restart your mobile browser.
Have you been able to save/use a passkey for any site?
What version of Android and Bitwarden are you running?
I am using Android15 on a Samsung Galaxy S25 phone, Bitwarden is version 2025.7.2 (20551)

No, I did not do this, as I don’t know how.
When I am searching for Autofill in the settings, I get to the page on the screenshot.
I took Bitwarden as the preffered app, but nothing else happens.
If I switch to Google as the preffered app, I would be able to configure auto-fill, but through Google, not by Bitwarden. In this case, Bitwarden would be down there as an additional service.
And no, I didn’t try to add any other Passkey, yet.
If you were talking about the settings within Bitwarden: Yes, turned this off and on etc. No changes, still no luck.
But I tried Discord and this is also strange.
I can set up a Passkey entry into Bitwarden, if I choose the “use my password manager to create a passkey” option. This works fine***, and a Passkey is added to the Discord dataset.
But where the trouble starts, is the daily usage.
I tried what happens, if I want to log into Discord on my PC.
I can choose “use Passkey” there, next I can choose that an iOS or Android device is the Passkey-device, then I get a QR code.
Scanning it with my default camera app on the S25 asks me, if I want to unlock the passkey and if this is a trusted device. But then the spinning wheel stats and runs into a timeout.
If you look on the screenshot, I am pretty sure this is not Bitwarden, this seems to be a Google-“Hourglass”.
I think I am forwarded to the Google Password Manager instead of Bitwarden, even though Bitwarden is the default app.
That may be the case - but I just tested it again on eBay and I still can’t login on my desktop browser with a passkey from my Bitwarden vault – as I wrote before, it works well, when the passkey implementation is done well on the side of the services… with eBay, it isn’t done well. You can read more about that particular problem here: Passkey popup doesn't show - domain not on excluded domains list
PS: And as written in the other thread: if you want to experiment with passkeys, e.g. use the Community Forum passkey implementation here. (and especially avoid eBay and non-personal Microsoft accounts…)
But you can create a Ebay Passkey, right?
But this might be just a different flavor of a bad implementation.
So let’s skip Ebay.
This forum here is a good option to test an lern.
But wouldn’t it make sense to list compatible services and sites, to avoid that people like me are running into issues, thinking they messed it up but it’s just the service itself?
