Problems with generating and saving passwords

The requested feature has been added; when changing or setting a password I am able to “autofill generated password” in the context menu when the field is focused.

However, it’s unusable, because when submitting the autofilled password, it is not added to or updated in the corresponding saved login. I have been forced to do a second “forgot password” on multiple accounts now.

The password is present in your “generator history” on the generator page, but Bitwarden Firefox generates 4 more passwords every time you open the extension, so even if you do glimpse the password enough to identify it before submitting the form and losing it forever you have to scroll quite far down to find it and copy it to a new manually created login.

There is also currently no option to disable the requested feature so you don’t accidentally click it and have to go through the above process.

@be_far Welcome to the forum!

I moved your comment into its own thread (in the Ask the Community section), because it seemed only tangentially related to the feature request topic where you had posted it.

It is difficult to understand what you are describing, so it would help if you could post some screenshots, or further explains what steps you are taking in the browser extension and context menu. Also, please indicate which version of the Bitwarden browser extension is installed (go to Settings > About) in your Firefox browser, and what operating system you are using.

Bitwarden does not have an option “Autofill generated password” in its context menu. Do you have a different password manager installed, or is your browser’s native password manager still enabled? Showing us a screenshot of your context menu would be helpful.

In Settings > Notifications have you enabled the option “Ask to update existing login”?

Using the context menu requires several steps (right-click, scroll to “Bitwarden”, click or hover over “Bitwarden” to open the menu, then select and click the desired menu function), so I find it difficult to imagine that you would go through all of those steps “accidentally”.

The thread linked below contains instructions for a better method to create and update account passwords, which is free of the problems that you have encountered. The instructions are written for the old browser extension UI (version 2024.11.2 and older), but the steps should be fairly similar in the new UI (version 2024.12.0 and later).
