That probability shouldn’t be too high, if the generator is used to create random passwords/passphrases.
Oh, that’s completely true. However, not all end users are computer-savvy and especially older customers who are the most vulnerable when it comes to password breaches. If Bitwarden wants to make sure that their product works with this population of users who likely need to change all their passwords anyways, having the password history feature be more useful to them while editing an entry is super-important.
Well, I am using the Firefox add-on v2024.12.3. And the link is grey text, not what is shown in the screenshot above. I see the exact same thing in Chrome and Edge. So what am I missing? How come I don’t see the new version? I tried to update my Firefox add-ons and it tells me there are no update. What gives?
I checked Light mode, but the link is blue there, too (in 2024.12.4 on Chrome):
Version 2024.12.4 should be available for Firefox when it has been approved by Mozilla. In the meantime, if you have version 2024.12.4.on Chrome and Edge and are seeing something different than the above screenshots, please post your own screenshot.
I have 2024.12.4 on Firefox, Chrome and Edge, and they all show the link in the same color as the text next to it. So, in Chrome, I switched to Dark Mode and the link is still the same color.
Here is the screenshot
I am baffled.
And you’re self-hosting and still have the old UI of the browser extension.
Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding, please open your browser extension, then go to Settings > About > About Bitwarden, and screenshot the information there.
Yes I am self hosting. You are saying that the self hosting bit makes a difference? In any case, I did update my Vaultwarden on my Synology NAS. But that did not change anything in Chrome nor the other browsers. Here is a screenshot of the version in Chrome
Yes.
You’d have to ask on their sides, how to activate the new UI.
Just the same, I would prefer if you followed the instructions that I had provided:
Here, I am referring to the Settings button at the bottom right corner of the Bitwarden browser extension popup window.
If it turns out that you do have 2024.12.4 (as it seems from the screenshot that you did post), then it is probably some interaction between the client and your Vaultwarden server that is causing the browser extension UI to be stuck in a version not seen since 2024.11.2. If I had to guess, it’s some kind of server-side feature flag, which is configured on Bitwarden’s servers but not in Vaultwarden.
It is not uncommon for incompatibility issues to occur between Bitwarden products and Vaultwarden (which is not a Bitwarden product). For help with such issues, please turn to the Vaultwarden community (using the links provided by @Nail1684 above).
A bit off-topic here now, but as far as I know: the new UI of the extension was not turned on for “Bitwarden self-hosted” - if I’m reading the sign correctly, this might now change with server version 2025.1.0:
(unfortunately, it is not specified… maybe it is a feature flag for something else - like SSH?!)
As for Vaultwarden, there seem to be at least some discussions about that - here New Layout for Bitwarden · dani-garcia/vaultwarden · Discussion #5351 · GitHub and/or here New bitwarden Beta Chrome extension requires a server-side flag · dani-garcia/vaultwarden · Discussion #5124 · GitHub (though with removing the feature flags, I guess eventually it will also activate automatically at some point?!)
I guess that could need an update.
PS: Also off-topic here, but in fact, Vaultwarden had some high security-related updates lately and recommended everyone to update ASAP. Your server version 2024.2.0 is completely outdated.
OK, so mystery solved!
