Improve Passphrase Generator: Number Separators and True ALL-CAPS Option

I recently migrated from another password manager and overall the transition has been smooth. However, I’ve found the current passphrase generator somewhat limiting compared to what I was previously using.

My job requires me to change my computer password every 90 days, so I prefer a password format that is both secure and memorable. For most passwords I’m happy to use fully random strings, but for the one I type frequently (locking/unlocking my PC) I prefer a structured passphrase.

Ideally, I want a passphrase made of three full words, one word in ALL CAPS, separated by a single digit. For example:
correct4HORSE3battery

This password was generated using these settings:
Number of words slider: 3
Separator: Numbers
Capitalize: Yes
Full Words: Yes

Their separator has the following options:

  • Hyphens (-)
  • Spaces ( )
  • Periods (.)
  • Commas (,)
  • Underscores (_)
  • Numbers (RANDOM 0-9)
  • Numbers and symbols (Random 0-9*!._%,)

By comparison, the current generator could only generate this password:
Compost1CollectedClapper

Settings:
Number of words slider: 3
Word separator: ‘’
Capitalize: Yes
Include Numbers: Yes

The feature request:

  1. Make word separator be a drop-down of options and have numbers be an option
  2. Make capitalization randomize one of the words instead of them all
  3. Make capitalization use ALL CAPS instead of Title Case

I understand that this would be my ultimate wish list with all 3, but a subset would also be great.

@spuc Welcome to the forum!

Thanks for your suggestions!

Nevertheless, I’m going to close this request (with some delay for further discussion, if necessary) as feature requests have to be about (more or less) one specific thing only.

Otherwise, it’s not possible to interpret any votes. (and simple example: if a request would be about a feature A and a feature B, how should someone vote who would be in favour of feature A, but doesn’t want feature B under any circumstances? – But, in general, there are also other considerations like not mixing up several topics in one “discussion”/request, avoiding duplicates of feature requests, …)

So, please feel free to open new separate feature requests about one specific thing only. (and please search for possible existing feature requests, that may match your requests, first)

PS:

I’m not sure if you saw the current separator option is a field where you can input one character of your choosing, so can already use all those separators if you want to:

… including numbers, but not random numbers and not more than one character.

These two existing feature requests might have some overlap with some of your suggestions:

You could add your ideas to the following catch-all feature request:

Although, for the reasons noted by @Nail1684 above, it would be wiser to spend your votes on feature requests that are more targeted (focusing on a single proposal).
