Hi Matt, can you confirm what steps you are referring to, and what browser you are using? The upstream fix is currently only available in the Chrome beta.
Disabling the autofill services and re-enabling them. It doesn’t work in any app at all now. I’ve tried apps that previously worked like the Domino’s app, bank app, etc. It just never pops up anymore.
I’m using Gboard, Galaxy S10 (whatever android it is, 12?), Chrome, Brave, etc.
The Bitwarden vault button used to pop up on top of the keyboard, but now it never comes, no matter the app.
Edit: Now it just works. Disregard. I rebooted the phone. I’ve definitely rebooted a few times recently.
Did you choose “popup” – as shown here: [Short Guide / Tips] Autofill on Android ?
If you chose “inline”, did you make sure your keyboard can show inline suggestions (as also explained further down, when you follow the previous link)?
I did, yeah. Again, my problem was solved by doing the steps in the original post and then rebooting my phone. Turned everything off, then turned everything back on. Sorry for wasting your time!
I just checked it - as Chrome 141 stable is out there, that flag is also available on the regular Chrome version.
… Ah, and the same is true for Brave “stable” (brave://flags) as well!
Heya,
It’s weird… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But most of the time I cannot seem to autofill credentials. Any ideas? I’m using brave and tried everything
@Printable Welcome to the forum!
Well, when you already tried everything, I’m not sure if anyone (or anything) can help. ![]()
Did you also already enable the following flag: #autofill-update-context-for-web-contents via brave://flags ?
Any word on an update for Android autofill in apps? I’m still finding it very variable - sometimes it works fine in Outlook Mobile (where you have to fill out password then TOTP so great when BW works), other time you tap the selected entry and it doesn’t fill in a password at all, just copies the TOTP to the clipboard and you have to go back into BW to manually copy it. I’ve reported it on the form but am assuming there’s no benefit in re-reporting it everytime I notice the issue (which is multiple times a week). It used to work absolutely flawlessly.
I have to agree, very few sites, or even phone apps work anymore. I’m left copy & pasting which is a security risk.
Is this a problem only with Chrome browser as default?
My default browser is Quetta because it supports Chrome & Edge extensions, and I am not experiencing these app login problems. I did initially because somehow Chrome got set as my default browser but after setting it properly and checking the autofill settings my devices have been fine.
I’ve just logged out of a few apps on the phone, gone to sign in, tapped the Username field, the BitWarden prompt appears above my keyboard and everything works as expected for the apps that can call on password managers.
I’m not plugging Quetta, I chose it after Kiwi stopped being updated with Chrome versions after testing a few other browsers. My primary browser criterion has always been extension installation. I really hate that Chrome on Android does not support any extensions and almost never use it (same on our desktops for different reasons) but if this is limited to Chrome as the default browser perhaps users can test some others, even as a temporary workaround?
Hey all, please let me know which steps you’ve completed from the post at the top in addition to if you have tried enabling the flag in Chrome/Brave for the upstream issue.
It would also be helpful to know what devices and Android OS versions you are running.
Hi @dwbit
- Yes, updated to 2025.9.0
- Yes disable-d then re-enabled autofill and chrome (although the issue affects Chrome and native apps)
- Is this flag relevant for app issues too?
I’m running a Pixel 9a on Android 16 (BP3A.250905.014)
Thanks for confirmation! Can you temporarily enable flight recorder (logs non sensitive data), attempt autofill actions, and share with the support team using the form in the sidebar at: Help Center | Bitwarden
You’ll get an email back that you can attach the log to.
@dwbit so I’ve created a couple of Flight Recorder logs and they’re showing up in the history - however whenever I used the share intent (I’ve tried Gmail, Dropbox and LocalSend) they just seem to come through as empty 2KB zip files - is there a known bug in the Android app for not being able to share these?
PS - did share all (3 dots at the top right) and that did seem to work but looks like there’s something wrong with sharing individual files?
Glad the ‘share all’ worked, I’ll pass the individual item issue along to the team! ![]()
Just wanted to report that the #autofill-update-context-for-web-contents flag works on my Pixel 9 Pro — finally back to a comfortable experience after a few years!
@dwbit just to say that’s me sent in some more Flight Recorder logs although I’ve not heard anything back from the support team from the previous ones I sent in.
Thanks, I’ll check in!
I did steps 1 and 2. All seems to work fine. Every once in awhile I need to restart the Chrome browser to have the login information appear.
I am on Pixel 8 Pro. Android 16. Bitwarden Version 2025.10.0
