Extension breaks websites

Hello,

we are observing strange behavior with the Bitwarden browser extension. As soon as the extension is installed in MS Edge or Google Chrome (it just needs to be installed, it doesn’t need to be configured), our internal apps stop working. We can also reproduce some of this behavior in Google Maps: it affects the “Measure distance” function. The lines are not displayed continuously.

Our apps behave in such a way that, for example, modal pop-ups only open after a delay of up to three minutes.

Edge and Chrome: latest available version
Extension: 2025.8.2

Is anyone familiar with this behavior?

Klaus

Hey there, that doesn’t sound related, but for the team to review the report, please report a bug on Github or contact support (use form in right sidebar) with additional details.

@kroerig Welcome to the forum!

I would suggest that for any websites that are broken by the Bitwarden extension, add the corresponding website domain to one or both of the following two lists in the extension settings:

  • Settings > Autofill > Blocked Domains
  • Settings > Notifications > Excluded Domains

Is there any way to push these settings through GPO or registry settings? I need to configure this on about 400 devices/ users.

Do you know where these settings are save and how to modify them?

Local data storage locations are documented here:

I do not see any files that contain human readable settings. So where are these settings stored?

It’s a little bit different for each browser extension, so you’d have to disclose what browser and OS you are using. However, I don’t know whether the settings in question are stored in a “human readable form”. I do not recall any reports on this forum of anybody being able to successfully configure settings by manipulating the local files.

If you haven’t already done so, it may be a good idea to review the information available in the Help Center (here, here and here), which summarizes Bitwarden’s support for managed deployment of browser extensions.

Yes, I knows these sites. But they only explain the installation and how to use a custom URL.

I cannot find any information on how to pre-configure other settings.

Like I said above, you’d have to disclose what browser and OS you are using if you want me to investigate this further.

MS Edge on Windows 11

The settings are stored under %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\MYPROFILE\Local Extension Settings\jbkfoedolllekgbhcbcoahefnbanhhlh (where “MYPROFILE” is a folder specific to your browser profile, e.g., “Default”, or “Profile 3”), in a numbered .log file (e.g., 000003.log).

I experimented a little, but in my initial attempts, I was unable to modify the browser extension settings by editing the .log file.
