Extension 2026.4.1 doesn't autofill in new Microsoft Edge update

I’m using the extension in Microsoft Edge on a Windows 11 machine. Edge updated to version 148.0.3967.70. The BW extension was gone after the update (I did not remove it). I readded it but it doesn’t work. The extension version is 2026.4.1.

  • I can pin the extension
  • I can log in to the extension.
  • I see my vault
  • When I click an item or try to fill a password/username I get the message:
“Unable to autofill the selected item on this page. Copy and paste the information instead.”
  • I get this for every vault item
  • I can’t navigate to a webpage it’s nearly useless as it is.
  • The extension works in Brave.

@Hagohags Welcome to the forum!

I just tried it with a test item on https://fill.dev/form/login-simple and the BW extension autofills without any issue. (e.g. via the inline autofill menu or clicking the item in the autofill suggestions)

Version: 2026.4.1
SDK: ‘main (aaccd8d)’
Server-Version: 2026.4.2

Edge 148.0.3967.83 (Official Build) (64-Bit)
Win 11 25H2

Can you autofill a test item on https://fill.dev/form/login-simple?

As you just reinstalled the extension: some or all settings might have been resetted. Did you compare the settings with your extension on Brave?

Update: today none of my existing entries work in Edge or Brave.

Did something in browser updates break something in BitWarden? I know that wouldn’t be a bitwarden problem and I’m sure others would be having the same problem.

Anyway, I added an entry for the simple login-simple, and BitWarden works as expected. I can click on it and it will navigate to the page. I created a fake username and password and it will fill it. It still doesn’t work for any existing entries. If I try to fill from an existing entry on the simple form, I get the following.

I tried cloning one and it didn’t help.

I confirmed a colleague is having the same issue. So, not just me.

@Hagohags There were other reports like this recently – see e.g. here (including the bug report on GitHub): Why Bitwarden is so bad in placing passwords (autofill)?

Some things seem to be reproducible by others. – If you say every entry: can you autofill the login form for this forum? I just tried it (on Vivaldi, though) and don’t get any error message.

If you encounter it also on this forum here: could you share the URI you used in your login item and the overall autofill settings, including the autofill method you use? (any other accessible login form would do be fine too)

PS: Apart from that: autofill issues with specific site should always also be reported via those Google forms that are linked here: Welcome Guide

Hope the screenshot is okay. Here’s what I did.

I have no idea what changed.

I’m not entirely sure what you mean by:

Apologies for the serial emails.

I checked one of my credit card logins. The autofill options is a website URL: https://online.americanexpress.com/

This site is working to both navigate and autofill.

I do not understand what is happening. Another entry that is a website with a log in still is failing. If I click the “launch website” it launches but fails to autofill (previous error message).

Just FYI, there seems to be missing something here… (did not go through via email?!)

You asked:

If you encounter it also on this forum here: could you share the URI you used in your login item and the overall autofill settings, including the autofill method you use? (any other accessible login form would do be fine too)

What do you mean by overall autofill settings–there are many. What do you mean by autofill method? I click on a password/username field, I don’t have any options. I’ve selected the item in BW and selected “Fill” and get the error.

Except it’s not just one site. It’s several sites and sites that I use every day…multiple times a day.

Thanks for the clarification.

Do you have an “innocuous” site where it doesn’t work and the login form is easily accessible so that any one of us could try to reproduce / possibly find a workaround?

(I’ll answer to the rest later)

I don’t really know what the triggers are. I have a couple thousand BW entries. I have a dozen or so I use everyday, multiple times a day. These are all banking, client testing sites, things like devops sites. So, no, not innocuous, but some are common, like AmericanExpress. If people aren’t see this then there’s some quirk in either browser or BW updates.

I know a colleague has seen this also.

I know I’ve used BW for a few years now and never seen this.

I see this in Edge and Brave. I haven’t tried other browsers.

I appreciate you sticking with me, but if BW doesn’t have enough reports to troubleshoot or specific settings they want me to check, I need to move on, so am switching over to a different password tool, at least for now.

Regards.
