Recently, I noticed a difference between the browser extensions for Chrome (and other Chromium-based browsers) and Firefox. I don’t know whether this difference always existed or if it’s new.
Scenario: I click the Bitwarden extension icon and type a few letters of the site to where I wish to go. Several matches show up, and I click the little control that causes the site to be opened in a new tab. The Bitwarden dropdown disappears. The new tab displays the login screen for the chosen site.
- On Firefox: I click the Bitwarden extension icon, and it offers one or more autofill suggestions. I pick the proper match and the login fields are completed.
- On Chrome (+others): I click the Bitwarden extension icon and I am shown the search results again. I must click the menu at the far right to get to autofill.
It seems to me that the Firefox behavior is more appropriate. Once I have opened a site, the search results are no longer needed, and I should be able to proceed directly to auto fill.
My muscle memory seems to think that the Chrome (+) extension used to work like Firefox’s, because my fingers want to operate in that manner, but now there is the extra step for autofill that I don’t remember from when I first started using Bitwarden.
Is there any reason why the two browsers’ extensions operate differently? …thanks!
