Do you want me to start another topic or find posts related to each of the things I mentioned and just add a post to those? The latter is way too much effort for the expected result.
Don’t worry, I started the thread for you.
This is a side discussion prompted by the following comment (which was off-topic to the thread in which it was originally posted):
This part of your comment is a bit off-topic/contradictory to the current feature request — any further discussion of missing features should be continued either in the Ask the Community category of the forum, or in the feature request topics corresponding to each missing functionality.
An actual answer to the question being asked instead of thread policing would be preferable, but I’ll relocate that section to the other forum tomorrow morning.
It may be helpful to know that @grb is not a bitwarden employee. He is just a customer like you and I. Bitwarden has granted him and me forum admin privs, but neither of us has access to any non-published information.
Much of what you ask already has on-going conversations. You might find answers or workarounds in them. I do see value (as @grb suggests) in keeping the conversations self-contained.
- Allow export of a specific folder/collection
- Inheritance of Access Permissions for Nested Collections
- Drag and Drop vault items/entries/folders/collections
- Progress bar during downloading - Bitwarden Send
- Automated Vault Export / Backup to cloud storage
Overall, though, the theme of your questions seems to center around “why don’t Bitwarden development priorities align with my needs?”. For that, I do not see an existing topic, so you may need to create a new topic to discuss that.
I wasn’t implying that @grb needed to be the one to provide the answers, more that it would he helpful for people in the know about the product to do so, rather than the first response be about how part of the post isn’t in the right place to be ignored by the company.
The theme of my question is that Bitwarden’s development priorities don’t align with the needs of MSPs. The features I asked for are features many others have asked for (some of which as I stated, have gone unacknowledged, must less undeveloped for years now) and these are questions I’m getting asked by my customers, the ones Bitwarden wants us selling the product to through their official MSP program. I’m the one who pushed for our company to start reselling this product and when the only answers I can get to any of the very valid requests my customers have is “wrong forum”, that doesn’t inspire confidence. I don’t expect Bitwarden to drop everything and develop the features I’m asking for tomorrow, nor did I ever make such a request. However, the inability to do something as simple as export a specific collection, when the first thread I could find about that was posted 3 years ago? Yeah, that’s my concern.
I’ve added my concerns about certain issues to their existing threads. Bitwarden didn’t acknowledge them then, so I don’t see how posting more content in those thread versus here is going to make any difference. There are core issues at the heart of this product’s development that the team needs to figure out and a bit of transparency would go a long way so that when my bosses or clients ask about these issues, I can at least say “They are aware of them and as you can see here, this is their plan.”
Please tag me when you have started your other topic.
Hey @PXAbstraction thanks for the feedback and feature requests! Please keep in mind that there are hundreds of feature requests at any given point in time, and many community/Enterprise/Partner feature requests have been added to Bitwarden over time.
Development at Bitwarden is always a balance of continued security improvements, maintenance & bug fixes, and feature development, with the community and business users being a big part of the development direction.
Rest assured, I have shared your feedback with the team. ![]()
I appreciate the official response. Honestly, the biggest issue right now is the bugs and getting that sorted first. Definitely focus on that before any feature requests.
Like I said, I do really like the product and that’s why I pushed for it. I might be sharp in my critiques, but it’s done in the effort of wanting to see this thing be the best it can be so we can be confident selling it to our clients. I think that many in the MSP world would just benefit from a bit more clarity and transparency on whatever plan you folks have to address this.
Cheers and good luck!
Totally get, thanks for sharing! I’ll see how we can better update the roadmap for the next quarter, cheers!
