Chrome extension takes forever to load UI after authenticating and is extremely slow and unresponsive

I am having the same issue, I also self host. I am all up to date with extensions, server, etc. I never had this problem until a few months ago and thought it would eventually iron itself out, but is still a problem.

Some more insight, this maybe only occurring on older client devices. As an example at work I have no problem with the extension; those computers are rather up to date. The two computers I typically use at home are nearly 10-12 years old. When I go to a website the BW chrome extension does not detect the site until like 4 mins later, therefore I can no longer auto fill on sites anymore. Also if I attempt to click on the BW chrome extension nothing happens; it takes a very long time to load.

I’m wondering if everyone else here that is having a problem is also having it on these older client devices, considering it works fine at my work desktop and even laptop.

Just for understanding it correctly: your work desktop and laptop also “work” via the same self-hosted server of yours?

That is correct. Also same chrome browser and extension.

Okay, so the “slow” and the “fast” clients use the same self-hosted server… are they in the same “network” as well? (I just thought that there might be differences in your private vs work network setup/conditions - and/or the way both the slow and the fast clients access the self-hosted server…?!)

Nope two entirely separate networks. Work computers are at work and the other two personal computers are home along with the hosted server.

So the work computers don’t access the self-hosted server “at home”?

Work computers do, thru the internet. At home the computers use the same domain name but is resolved to the local ip of the server.

Sorry for the misunderstandings on my side. But apart from that again: it could well be “network/connection problems” then and not (only) that your “slower” clients are older.

I don’t see how it’s network related issues. The work computers breeze thru fine despite being the offsite computers connecting back to the server thru internet.

Furthermore the two computers having a problem are local to the server and bitwarden is extremely slow.

To even further prove this, and i forgot to mention, I can bring the work laptop home (which again brings that laptop into the same local network as the other 2 computers and server) and there are no issues with that laptop.

Also a family member has a newer Dell laptop same version of chrome same be extension, which is on the home network, no issues there.

I have the same issue, mostly when my network is limited.
I am connected to a network without internet access (intranet), i guess bitwarden is waiting on some resources that is preventing access to vault.

Same issue, reinstalled the extension, turned off/on, didn’t work. I think this should be prioritized as native app works well. For me it just takes forever to open, not load after auth

I have the same problem. macos 15.1.1 and chrome Version 131.0.6778.86 (Official Build) (arm64). It started happening 1 version of Chrome ago. Does NOT happen on Brave. Toggling the extension off/on does not fix the issue but it does reduce the wait time. Going to the direct URL interesting does let me unlock it faster but that’s the only improvement.
