I have two routers. One I have created a new entry in BW but when I go there it just does not find my settings. When I click NEW on the login page of the router nothing happens. BTW there is just a password on this router no user. I havea second router where every time I go to the login page it wants to create a new password. Despite there being an entry. When I do an automatic login from the BW page it works, but again, not when I go to the page myself.
Also Im sorry but I find the adding 3 categories to the post confusing and difficult to understand. So I may have filled it out wrong. I agree with the concept, makes sense but its not really IMO not user friendly.
Thanks.
Ok no one is answering.Lets try this question. If there is no user it seems bitwarden does not like this. How can I have bitwarden just give me the password for the site, when there is no username field. Just goes straight to the password. I have searched and found no answers to this. Athough Im asuming there are. I finda many tips on using no password but nothing on no user.
Thanks.
The first thing I would check is to see if the website URL you have configured for your router entry matches what you use to access the router. Also check the match detection settings to make sure they are appropriate.
For example, if you use âhttp://router.asus.com/â to access your router, you may want to use âHostâ as the match detection method.
Thank you for your response.
For the tp router Im just using the ip address http://192.168.1.51
For this site which is my internal access to this router, I note. It says â [Not Secure] 192.168.1.51 â in the MS Edge browser address line. Im wondering if BW is blocking this because of this.
I mean I when i press any BW button like âNewâ just below the PW line on the web page nothing happens its like it is dead.
Please Advise. If this is true how can I get around this?
The âNot Secureâ message is just the browser telling you that the protocol is âhttpâ instead of âhttpsâ. It is not something to worry about.
Try changing the match detection for that URL from âdefaultâ to âHostâ.
Works for me on Windows + Chrome. My URL is http://192.168.xx.xx/webpages/index.html and I am using âHostâ match detection (my default).
âNot Secureâ is the browser talking, not Bitwarden. Mostly, it is just observing that you are using http, not https.
Unfortunetely this did not work. It just says forbidden.
@ccm Welcome to the forum!
There are some things I quite donât understand:
Did the router say something is forbidden â or did Bitwarden say (autofill?) is forbidden?
And from your first post:
What does âNEW on the login page of the routerâ mean? Is there an option on the router page to create a new login for the router? â And you wrote ânothing happensâ, but what should happen in your opinion? And did you mean nothing happens on the router? Or nothing happens on Bitwardenâs end? â But what do you expect Bitwarden to do exactly, when you press âNEWâ on the router page?
And maybe it would help, if you could share a screenshot of the URI settings (Edit login view) of your login item where it doesnât work (including the match detection setting) and please redact any sensitive information if there was any. Like this:
First thank you for your help.
Yes lets clarify somethings.
And for simplicity lets deal with one router at a time as perhaps they are differing issues.
So lets talk TP link.
AT bottom are some pictures or a link to them. The first one is the TP link login screen I get when I to to it, and the BW interface that pops up when I go there.
When I click with my mouse the âshieldâ or the âNew Itemâ nothing happens. (I asume these are bw connections/interface trying to do something)
What should happen you ask? I thought that when you clicked New item the window from BW should open to create a new login/profile. This answers the question what do I expect to happen? IM actually not sure what is suppose to happen when I click the shield ??
When I say Nothing happens I suppose I mean nothing happens on the router/web page, you can just click and its like a brick nothing happens and nothing happens in BW it doesnt open or anthing. HOWEVER if I type the password into the password box on the web site from the router on the same window it works. So the page is not dead. Just the BW Shield and the âNew Loginâ message from BW dont work.
HOWEVER. I HAVE added the password and url into a profile using the New option from the BW Browser app. So its all there anyway. In my opinion BW is not finding it. See picture 3 on my link at bottom for my current BW settings for this site.
I expect that when I go to the web page http: // 192.168.1.51 (Yes its 51) the BW auto login should pop up showing me the password I have entered in manually. But nothing happens.
Now were is the Not Secure message coming from you ask.? As far as I can tell this is the Edge browser telling me thtat it is not https: See picture 2. Chrome says basically the same thing.
I hope that helps. Click on the link below and it wil take you I think to the 3 pictures. or scrool down, not sure.
PS not sure what will happen I got an error from bitwarden community that I can only put one link in the message as Im a new user.
Thanks.
Very good!

Ah, okay. The âBW interface that pops upâ there is called inline autofill menu! ![]()
Aha, okayâŚ

Do you have a corresponding login item for the TP Link now in your BW vault? â Then you donât need to create another login item in BW for the TP Link. (Clicking âNew itemâ in the inline autofill menu would lead to exactly that: creating a new login item in your BW vault)
-
When you are on the TP Link page, I think you do see a number on the BW icon in the top right of the browser (the browser toolbar), right? â There is a bug, that prevents the inline autofill menu from showing the login items in some situations⌠so you might even have set it up correctly, but are experiencing this bug.
-
What is your BW extension version?
That depends. You can set up the BW extension in a way, that you need to click the shield icon to open the inline autofill menu. (that could be activated/deactivated here in the BW extension: Settings â Autofill â Autofill suggestions â Display suggestions when icon is selected)
Ah, so probably the TP Link site works - but BW does nothing?
I think as others wrote before, thatâs the browser. All http sites (in contrast to https sites) are labeled as âinsecureâ. That should not be a problem in itself for BW to autofill here.
BTW, as a possible workaround for the time being, you could also use âDrag & Fillâ for filling in the password.
Yep, there are some restrictions to âbrand newâ users. As it was a link and not a picture, I think I could see the other screenshots. So far the URI looks okay to me â so it might be the bug as written above, that you donât get the inline autofill suggestions. â Did you do a restart of the browser and/or your system since you first posted here?
Because honestly, there are instances, where I experience the same bug - and not on TP Link sites onlyâŚ

I understand that but I thought perhaps it would open up and BW would then add the settings as it seeâs fit rather than me adding my own manually and perhaps make a mistake.
Also even if I did do this and made a duplicate profile. Its not doing anything. Dead, deseased, expirerd.

Well yes and no. If I use bw to go to the site. The 1 shows up. But if I type in the address 192.168.1.51 it does not usually show up. And even if I go into the router web site BW still does not now that it has access by putting listing a 1.
Bug I duno.

You talk about drag and fill as a solution. Im not sure what that is, BUT when i click on BW profile and click on FILL it does enter the right info and logs in. Sooo I got that. I just never think to do it.
There are other issues I have. Its frustrating but it appears thats normal in life.
BW is good for at least keeping track of PW even if it does not work all the time. My phone for example is worse seems every time I use it I have to type in my master password. And a tablet I have hardly works. I talk to support and they say Oh ya it doesnt work on that. grrr. But as I say It does save passwords across all the platforms. I have to go to Ireland in a few days, and as I travel about it has been nice to at least have a repository for PW rather than trying to remember them or carrying a sheet of paper with a spread sheet of PW and hoping I dont loose my luggage. This gives me a sense of peace.
I guess i was hopeing for an easier solution. Nothing is.
Thanks.
Try this. When it does not show up, click the bitwarden extension icon and select â+New >> Loginâ to create a new entry. On the new entry copy the URL onto your clipboard. Then cancel creating the new entry, open up the existing entry in edit mode and click â+ Add Websiteâ to create a second URL field. Paste the URL you earlier copied into it and then set the match mode for it to Host. Then save the entry and see if the â1â starts reliably showing up. The thought being that maybe there is a non-obvious typo that copy/paste will not duplicate.
Another thing that may help is to uninstall the extension, close your browser, delete Bitwardenâs local storage and then reinstall the Bitwarden extension. The idea here is that a corrupted config may be causing problems, which is often times fixed by a fresh install.
I did yesterday uninstall the BW and then installed again, but I admit I didnt delete the cache.
As Of yet I have not done this.
Your first suggestion MAY have caused the 1 to show up more reliably. However it still does not put the password automatically into the field.
Soooo here is one interesting thing. When you copy the url the address bar as I pointed out before says. (Not secure) https:192.168.1.51 [the https is Red as is the Not secure and there is a line through the https. Follow link below See second picture here.
When I paste this line into a notepad or BW it pastes as https:/192.168.1.51 in other words not http which in my mind it should as its clearly telling me its a http site, strange. Iâm not sure exactly what is happening but one might think that BW is confused as its a http site but for some reason the browers are copying the address as https:
Iin BW I tried putting in just https, no luck . I tried reversing the order
https
http
in the profile. Nope.
Just my thoughts.
PS It appears that the 1 is not consistent after some observation.
Sorry, I forgot that point yesterday myself â there is also still a current bug with that (the BW icon not showing consistently numbers etc.).
(PS: Here the corresponding thread: Browser extensions icon doesn't show number of logins after last update (2025.7.0))
Bitwarden wonât fill on an http site, when you set up the URI in your login item with https. PS: This is true only in some situations⌠see this post from @grb for the complete picture. ![]()
You said.
âBitwarden wonât fill on an http site, when you set up the URI in your login item with https.â
Well that sorta makes sense as its not the exact site. If it looks slavishly at the URL, which I asume it does. But I asume putting it in as a secondary url will in theory make it work .. when it works. As then it seeâs both. adresses and if not the first one then the second and accepts it.
I suppose I never thought about it that there is a lot of code going on behind every page. Particularly the login page. Even though your clicking away on one site, it always shows the same address in the address bar and never changes.
I came to the conclusion some time ago that learning html and all of its iterations FOR ME was a fools errand and have always left this up to others. As one programer said to me, I could have been a doctor its easier. The body never changes, but programing language never stops evolving.![]()
