Bug? globally autofill is broken?

OK hopefully this is ok to post an autofill issue here. I will fill out the form. This is not a specific site autofill issue though. I would say 80%+ of the sites i have this same issue. Just this morning autofill failed on both x.com & schwab.com. Yesterday i know i had the same issue with amazon. After you navigate to the site you will notice the extension icon up top doesn’t have a number which means match detection didn’t find a match. Whats weird if you edit the entry in bitwarden & resave it then it will be found (even if you don’t change the match detection algorithm). This has been going on for maybe 2 months. I was just waiting hoping it was just a extension bug that would be fixed soon but it hasn’t been fixed.

This happens at home on two different macs (i generally use brave) & it happens at work using windows & microsoft edge.

@ncage Just a quick check if it is “globally broken” for you: what happens when you try to fill in username/email and password on the forum login site: https://community.bitwarden.com/login ? Does that work? (given autofill is offered to you at all – and you have https://community.bitwarden.com (Host) or bitwarden.com (Bade domain) stored in the corresponding login item)

@Nail1684 thanks for the quick reply. It works fine on the forum. So i went through trying to reproduce so i could give you some better data.

I went to schwab & x again & yep they are all working. I restarted the browser and again they are working (thinking maybe it was after a browser restart i would have the issue but no that wasn’t it). So i went to amazon.com which i said i had issues with yesterday & yep the issue showed up again. Here is a screenshot of what it initially looked like:

I have 4 different amazon accounts in my database. All i did was save that one entry (making absolutely no changes) & all 4 of them started showing up:

So i didn’t have go to each entry & save. I only had to save 1 of them & they all started to show up. I didn’t even have to refresh the page. It happened immediately after i saved. Weird huh? Hopefully this helps narrow down what the issue is.

  1. So, it doesn’t look like “autofill is generally broken”.

  2. It seems, you’re using mainly the inline autofill menu – and there are some reports about inconsistency here, like:

  3. I think those threads are relatively similar – most do contain reference to some GitHub issues (GitHub is where bugs are reported). I didn’t check all of them now (if they’re still all “open”), but probably best thing would be, to report those bugs there / add your details to those issues.

  4. I only tested amazon.de now with your matching setting (with my account there), and had no problem… maybe this should be tested again with amazon.com and more extensively…

  5. Apart from that, yeah… as long as it’s no general autofill issue, best thing is to report all sites with autofill issues (mobile / other clients) – especially when also using custom fields doesn’t help.
