Hi,
After a while, Bitwarden suggests no saved accounts in the inline menu.
What could be causing this? A bug?
Greetings
I’m also seeing this from time to time…
This should be the corresponding bug report:
I find this very annoying.
I hope it gets fixed soon.
It was already reported on November 30, 2024.
EDIT:
It’s happening more and more often now, which is really annoying. Please fix this quickly.
I’ve noticed on multiple systems that Bitwarden will stop recognizing websites after some time. Not sure exactly how long, but websites which it will normally offer the credentials for in the login screen suddenly don’t work anymore. I’m still logged into Bitwarden and can find the info by searching the vault, but the only solution I’ve found for the login screen is to restart the browser and log in to Bitwarden again. (Actually, I’ve never tried just logging out and back in without restarting. Might do that next time.)
Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution?
Can you provide some examples?
Perhaps the website is now redirecting you to a login page that has a different URL from before?
The solution would be to use to “Fill and Save” option that is available in the overflow menu (three vertical dots) after finding the relevant item by searching.
I have recently come across this issue as well, but my coworkers seem to be working normally.
Quick question: what do you mean by restart the browser? I did search how to and since I’m using Microsoft, I typed edge://restart in the search bar and then hit enter but that never seemed to help get it back up.
It’s not too big of a deal but it sure was easier when you could just type the master-password and get in… Feel free to @ me if you find a solution!
In my case, I open the website to the login screen that I am trying to get into (not the bitwarden site). Normally, in the corner of the username and password entry bars there is a small bitwarden logo. If you click on it, they will bring up another popup in the top right corner wanting me to input my master password and once I enter that, it will auto-log me into the website. However, neither the small logos nor the master password box is showing up.
Just by reading @scampbllasn 's post, I read the issue to be like mine, however, I could be wrong.
I have tried to update the websites Autofill URL and that did not fix any solution.
Thanks for trying to help!
I will try to gather more info the next time it happens, but it’s a universal problem. When it happens on one site, it happens on all. These are mostly sites I have pinned or bookmarked, so it’s unlikely the URL suddenly changes (especially on all of them at once).
@BCass Welcome to the forum!
“Restarting” a browser just means to quit the browser app, and then restart it. In a Windows computer, just click the button in the upper right corner of your browser to close the browser. Then open the browser again as usual (e.g., via the Taskbar or Start menu).
There are a number of things that may have gone wrong on your system, many of which are easy to fix. However, to help you, we will need more information. At the top of your Edge browser, to the right of the address/search bar, do you see a small Bitwarden logo (a blue-white shield icon)? If so, when you use your browser to go to a login screen for one of your accounts, is the lower right corner of that Bitwarden logo (the one at the top of your browser) now covered by a small black circle containing a numerical value? After you answer these two questions, I may have follow-up questions for you.
Ok, it just happened again. I’ve been logged into Bitwarden since at least yesterday with no problems. Now when I’m on one of my normal websites it says “No items to show” in the username/email box. There’s an icon on the extension and when I open it, the correct login is right there and fills in when I click Fill.
I compared what I get when it prompts me to save vs the already saved info, and the only difference I see is that the existing on has a general website.com URI and the new save has the full address of the login page.
Just to see what happens, I saved the new one and reloaded the page. I now see two logins in the extension, and the username box still gives me “No items to show.”
By “extension”, do you mean the Bitwarden shield icon at the top of your browser? And by “there’s an icon”, do you mean that there is an overlay badge in the corner of the shield icon, showing the number of matching login items?
What happens if you autofill using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+L (instead of opening the browser extension window)?
Also, what version of the browser extension do you have installed, and what browser are you using?
Is this the same Problem?
@mutilator I think you’re right, thank you.
@scampbllasn @BCass I have moved your posts into an existing thread on the same topic.
It seems to be that there are two variants of this bug — one in which the inline autofill menus are not rendered at all (despite a URI match being detected by the browser extension), and a second on in which the inline autofill menus are rendered, but are not populated with the matching vault items (instead displaying only “No items to show”). For anybody posting in this thread (or in the Github thread): please make it clear which of the two bug variants you are experiencing.
Yes, exactly.
Ctrl + Shift + L appears to work, thanks. At least that’s a workaround.
Browser is Vivaldi, which I just updated. Didn’t get around to checking whether a Bitwarden log out and back in would fix the problem before that, next time I will. The extension is version 2025.5.1.
Is there a chance that the problem is being worked on?
EDIT 20.06.2025:
It seems that this occurs more frequently when new credentials are added.
I just had the problem again, and this time it happened just a few minutes after I’d logged in the first time. No idea what might have triggered it. Logging out and back in did fix it, for what that’s worth.
I hope Bitwarden has this on its radar.
Just happened again. It has appeared again shortly after logging in.
