Bitwarden Safari extension for iOS and iPadOS

Welcome, @dransel to the community!

I am able to autofill usernames, passwords and even use passkeys from Bitwarden on my iPhone, both when using Safari and Chrome. Instructions here.

Individual browser extensions are not needed (nor supported) on mobile devices. Instead one installs the Bitwarden iOS app from the Apple App Store (Android as similar). The app is capable of autofilling all by itself.

I would like to add some corrections here: Safari on iOS does support extensions (see the 1Password example earlier in the thread). As to why one would want the extension over the app - the app doesn’t work perfectly well. I encounter many websites where the autofill doesn’t work properly. In those cases I have to minimize my browser > open Bitwarden app > search for my password and copy it manually > return back to the browser to paste it. With an extension this becomes a much simpler process.

I could kiss you! You just made life so much more convenient. So kind, thank you!

Thanks so much! Amazing that I did not know that one

Do we have a solution to the extension request?

We have just bought Bitwarden but to my surprise it doesn’t have an extension to safari in IOS

As it seemed there’s no extension for safari in iOS?

I’ve installed the app but I can’t enable it in safari as I can I macOS.

Longpress in a user or password box doesn’t give any reaction in an iPhone.

@jonas2 Did you follow these instructions to set the iOS mobile app up for autofill: Autofill From iOS App | Bitwarden ?

I can’t believe this is still not a feature. Ignoring the other valid use cases, it’s very annoying to change a site password or sign up for a new service/site from a mobile device. A safari extension on iOS can watch for these changes and both suggest a randomly generated passwords as well as to update them in Bitwarden. The only way to do this on mobile currently is manually. I want to purchase this service for my family, but cannot do so without this feature.

Just moved everything from 1Password to Bitwarden last night, and just realized today it doesn’t have a Safari iOS extension, and thus logins can’t automatically be saved and have to be added manually :worried:

1Password also lets you generate passwords and masked e-mails and save them on the spot. While I don’t think masked e-mails is a dealbreaker, generating and saving strong passwords automatically from the website is a must have for me…

I just need to know if this is on the roadmap and being prioritized or not, because not having the extension is going to be a dealbreaker for me long term. Form filling for credit cards and personal information is a hugely useful feature that kept me on 1Password for a long time and I’d hate to have to go back because it’s missing here.

The public Roadmap is here:

Sounds like the below feature request might be more worthy of your vote than this one.

There is a specific form to report autofill failures on mobile (a link to which can be found on the welcome page.

Bitwarden decided a few years ago that the Bitwarden mobile app was the future. I would not count on the browser extension being ported to mobile. Instead, I would recommend creating a new feature request, requesting what feature(s) you would like brought to the mobile app.

@Jaxter There already is a feature request for that:

And maybe also:

I’m not looking for autofill. I am looking for Bitwarden to be watching out for when I manually type into a password field (either signing up to a new website or updating a current password) and then asking if I want to save or update that password in my Bitwarden vault. That cannot be done from the app alone. It has to be from a browser extension that is actively watching for password fields. This is why I posted my comment here. If it needs to be a different feature request for a browser extension, I’m happy to open one.

@Jaxter Sorry, I found the ā€œwrongā€ feature request previously… I now added another one (to my previous post), that is more close to ā€œautomatically adding / updating new login itemsā€.

@Materva Same for you – that seems to be the feature request you would also be interested in: Ask to add login and Ask to update existing login for iOS

Oh on iOS, Safari Extensions are bundled with apps. In the case of 1Password, the main app itself offers the Safari Extensions integration. So if the mobile app is the future, then the extension can be bundled in.
