I’m not using the desktop app and have biometric authentication disabled on my home PC, so unfortunately that doesn’t help. I suppose I could start using biometrics to unlock with less friction, but honestly I’ll probably just switch to 1password if this isn’t fixed soon.

I thought so, too. Sadly, when BW logs you out, it “forgets” your password and resets your biometric login, so this will not help whatsoever. Even worse, after you’ve logged in, the setting to log in with biometrics (or PIN, for that matter) will be disabled

FWIW I don’t use the desktop app at all, only the browser extension (on PC, and then the mobile app), and just had this issue crop up 2 days ago. Firefox last updated 8 days ago, to 126.0.

Just came here looking for a solution as I am having the same issue. It seemingly happens at random and boy it’s really annoying to have to keep logging back in ever few hours. I usually have it set to time out immediately then I’ll unlock it with a pin and have it ask for my master password on browser restart but same as with everyone else here it won’t maintain those selected settings once it logs me out. I haven’t had this issue on any other browsers, just Firefox. Hopefully they fix the issue soon as I had to switch from using my preferred browser to Firefox due to various issues.

FYI, this is claimed to be fixed in the forthcoming version of the Firefox extension.

They said that a month ago and there have been several releases since, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I have also experienced this issue recently on firefox. The extension would fully log out rather than just lock, even if the browser or machines was never closed.

Won’t lie, this is a very annoying issue. Really hoping they actually push out the fix for it soon. I exclusively use Firefox at home and work and would really like for my BW to stop logging me out randomly for no apparent reason

I created an account here, just to report on this.
I am curious, like many others, to understand the ETA for the fix.
I started using the desktop app given how frequently and randomly it happens.
I experienced this on Firefox only across all OS, Windows, MacOS and Linux.
Sometimes I experienced a very long time for the vault to show up after successful authentication.
If I try from the desktop app or from my phone, there is no issue whatsoever.
I was wondering if I was the only one and I thought I would add my feedback as it is close to negating the comfort of the Firefox extension brought on the desktop front.
Looking forward to some guidance on the fix and ideally understand if the fix is dependent on Firefox’s modifications and how much of these could change again in the future.

Hi all, I too have been experiencing this issue on Firefox over the last month or so and I just created an account on this community website to report this issue as well! I also contacted Bitwarden support with this issue directly.
I will re-iterate the report I submitted to Bitwarden support: Over the last month or two I am noticing a bug with Bitwarden’s Firefox add-on, where it frequently does a full logout, ignoring my “Vault timeout action” setting which is set to only “Lock” rather than “Log out”. I set the “Vault timeout” period to 15 minutes, and I also enable the “Unlock with Pin” option when the vault is locked. In the past, this worked perfectly and I could unlock my vault with my pin after the 15 minute timeout that caused the vault to simply lock, and my password was only required on a browser restart.
However, in the past month or so, I noticed that the add-on frequently logs out, requiring me to type my password to log in again and after that it resets my “Unlock with Pin” setting. Sometimes even after logging in, the add-on remains in a stuck state where the vault shows a loading indicator rather than my passwords. In this state, I need to either restart my browser or sometimes disable/re-enable the add-on or reinstall the add-on to make it work properly again! I have observed this same issue with the Firefox add-on on both my Windows 11 laptop and also my M1 Macbook Pro laptop (so, this is occuring on both Windows and Mac).
Hopefully this issue can be fixed, so please look into this bug to see if you can fix it with an update to the add-on!
