Hello everyone. I have an issue with the autofill feature on the website of an italian mobile carrier (the one in the title), specifically on this page: login
My issue is that the e-mail field is filled in perfectly, but the password field only shows one character (and it’s not just the case of a form showing only one asterisk, there is literally only one character in the field itself, which can be easily confirmed by clicking the “show password” button). In my case it seems that only the last character of the password is filled in the form.
This issue happens in every way I know of using Bitwarden: when I press CTRL+SHIFT+L, when I right click in the password field and select autofill, and also when I click on the extension manually select the autofill
There must be something going on with the password field itself because I can’t even paste anything in it (i.e.: only one character appears every time I try), but I can type in it normally. I am not savvy enough to know if there are different types of fields I should let the Bitwarden extension know about.
This issue happens on my desktop PC using Brave browser. There is an Ho-mobile app but I haven’t tried it.
Anyway, I apologize in advance if this has been asked already, but I’m new and even though I read the welcome post (Welcome to the Bitwarden Community!) and the docs about common autofill issues, maybe I’m just dumb and can’t search well enough. In truth, I didn’t know what to type in the query… Is it an autofill related issue? Is it a skill issue? Is it anything else?
I don’t know what other kinds of info I should provide to help. Thanks to everyone willing to help in advance,
Banjo
It’s just a site that restricts password entry thinking that it would be more secure, but in reality prevents using password manager’s autofill, copy & paste, and drag & drop, making the password less secure.
You should definitely give the bank a feedback. You can also report the error to Bitwarden at:
Meanwhile, you may have to resign to using passphrase and 2FA until either fixes the problem. Some people may resort to changing the bank.
Thank you Neuron5569. Is there anything I can do to “convince” bitwarden to type the password in anyway?
Oh btw - this is a mobile phone carrier, and this login window comes before 2FA. I wrote a post on their support website, but tbh I’m a bit skeptical about their willingness to solve my problem.
In the meantime I tried a third party extension called “Don’t F*** With Paste” to try and forcibly paste random words in the field, but to no avail.
Ha, the url should have clued me in; I automatically assumed it was a bank because they are often terrible.
AFAIK, there’s no way to jury-rig the extension to fill in a broken form, but maybe other members would have a more extensive experience, especially @grb .
