Add copy button next to the generated password (inline autofill menu)

When creating a new account on a webpage, it often asks users to re-enter the new password. Bitwarden offers a randomly generated password, but doesn’t seem to give the option to copy:

When the password is filled, it doesn’t fill the second password field.

The UX would be greatly improved if at least the option to copy the generated password was available right there, without having to go into the app (or browser extention) to copy a newly generated password.

@kfchou Welcome to the forum!

Hm, actually, it does for me:

And if it weren’t doing that, if you click a second time in the password field, it should show you an option “Save to Bitwarden”:

If you click that, it opens a new login item you can store then.

PS: Which browser extension version are you using?

PPS: I just tested this again, and both on Vivaldi and Firefox, with extension version 2025.10.0 also the “repeat password” field gets filled… I didn’t test different sites now, so I don’t know how reliable this is.

Instead of using the inline autofill menu to generate the password, you can use the right-click context menu:

This will generate a random password and automatically copy it to the clipboard; you can then paste it into both password fields.

This morning when I visited teamup, both password fields got populated  . I’ll keep monitoring this behavior. Thanks for checking!

Thanks for the tip. I’ll use this workaround for now.

IMO this requires a few more clicks than necessary. I’d still advocate for an option to copy the generated password right by the password field.

If you use the “Save to Bitwarden” option that @Nail1684 showed you, you should be able to autofill the password after it has been saved.

If it is okay for you… I just changed the title of your request from Add option to copy generated password to Add copy button next to the generated password (inline autofill menu), to make the request more clear.

Sounds great, thank you

Update: When we fill in a new password via a password reset webpage, the vault doesn’t get updated.

Perhaps this feature request would partially help resolving the issue mentioned above.

Additional reference:

  • What method are you using to generate and fill the new password?
  • Have you enabled “Ask to update existing login” under Settings > Notifications?
  • Is the website domain for the password reset page different from the website domain for the regular login form (or the original account registration form)?
  • What setting do you have for the “Default URI match detection” method (under Settings > Autofill)?
  • Have you customized the URI match detection method for the URLs stored in the vault item for which this problem is occurring?
  • Was your vault locked or unlocked when you attempted to perform the password reset?
