Add "auto-generated passwords" custom fields

please consider these 3 improvements for “Custom Fields”:

A) please change the field type radio buttons instead of a field choice…

→ saves 1 click

B) Field Types: in addition to “Hidden“, offer a “Auto Generated Password“ field type

→ saves several steps:

  1. save/cancel current login edit
  2. go back to the main screen
  3. click generator
  4. copy the password generated
  5. click back to the vault
  6. re-search the specific login card to use to enter the password string
  7. edit the card.
  8. add field
  9. select hidden
  10. paste the password

C) nice-to have: for this “autogenerated password“ type

re-use the same characters/lengths rules used to generate the main password under the login card containing the fields)

Could you explain what exactly you mean by “auto generated”? Would the idea be, to just choose that custom field type, and you automatically get it with a generated password?

BTW, it would have been better to create separate feature request for your proposals. It’s impractical to collect votes for feature requests which request several things.

I would defer to the UI experts and implementers but for instance, you would select the “autogenerated password” and it will expand the window with the same screen we already have when we click “generator” and use the string in the field content.

as per splitting the 3 points into separate requests, maybe I can move the requirement A (radio vs choice) as a separate one, but keep the other 2 together since they are closely related?

That sounds already better, but I think your third request should be also separate, as it would involve some kind of memorated generator rules for a vault item, which goes beyond the function of a custom field.

I was asking, because there already is a feature that seems similiar: Passwort Generator for Hidden Custom Field – so, if you would be asking for the same, your request could be merged.

Fair enough, you could merge “B” with that “Passwort Generator for Hidden Custom Field”; I think my request might be a bit simpler to implement in the sense that you don’t really need to build a new screen, just kind of link the existing ones…
So if people see some value in it and the effort is not too high, it could help with the overall ROI.

Though on second thought – as your OP still contains all three requests and the conversation we now had also doesn’t add to that other feature request (Passwort Generator for Hidden Custom Field) directly, I’m going to close this feature request (with a short delay).

Please then join Passwort Generator for Hidden Custom Field with “B” – and open a new feature request for “A”. Please do a search for “C” as there also might be an existing feature request for that already - at least for the “generator rules”, but maybe not for the connection to (hidden password) custom fields…
