With the Firefox extension what is the quickest to bring up a website for a login and fill it out?
The way I do it feels pretty cumbersome:
Click on the Bitwarden extension icon in Firefox (Is there a key board shortcut?)
Now I have to move from the “Tab” pane to the “Vault pane”.
Search for the login.
Then click on that login (I can’t figure out a keyboard shortcut to select the first login listed)
Click on the Launch icon of the Login (again keybaord shortcut?) – The website opens.
Now I have to click the extension icon again.
Click on Auto-filling the Login
Then in the website click on “Sign in”.
Is there an easier way? In 1Password I did the following only:
Open the extension with a keyboard shortcut
Searched for the login
Press return
and – boom! – the website opens and the login autofill incl. pressing the website sign-in button happens – with 3(!) instead of 8 steps and without any mouse click!
Bitwarden is designed primarily as a password manager, and not as a bookmarks manager. Thus, the quickest way to log in would be to use a bookmark manager (either a third-party utility, or the browser’s native bookmark functionality) to launch the website, then press Ctrl+Shift+L to autofill, followed by Enter to submit.
If you’re also attempting to use Bitwarden as a bookmark manager, then you would use the following method (which adds 3 extra steps to the above):
Ctrl+Shift+Y to open the extension.
Type your search term (no need to press Enter, as the search results will appear after you have typed two characters or more).
When you see the desired item in the search list, directly click on the Launch icon for that item, which opens the corresponding website in a new tab.
Ctrl+Shift+L to autofill.
Press Enter to submit the form (Bitwarden does not auto-submit login forms, for security reasons).
The two shortcuts cmd-shift+Y and cmd-shift+L are great.
Shame though that after the search I have to use the mouse to click…
Feels still quite bit more clunky than what I’ve been used to from 1Password… But open source and the option to self-host is definitely an amazing plus here!
