Windows Hello prompt not focused when unlocking chrome browser extension with windows hello

When I click unlock with biometric on the chrome extension, the windows biometric prompt is minimized requiring me to go to the taskbar and click the icon with my mouse which focuses and brings up the windows biometric window, after which i can scan my fingerprint and unlock the chrome extension vault.

Is this expected behaviour or am I missing something here?

Sounds much like this problem which has been going on for a few months now. If you believe it the same thing let me know and I can merge your question into the other thread.

Today, my desktop upgraded to 2025.5.0 and now my symptoms seem like yours. The biometric prompt does not appear in the foreground, but at least face-id is now working.

From my POV, there have been biometrics problems for the FF extension since the beginning of the year, and the desktop version since 2025.3.1. If you search Github, you can see there have been unresolved reports about it.

For Windows Hello not popping up to the foreground, someone came up with a workaround using Autohotkey:

Otherwise, other non-ideal workarounds include:

  1. Stick to the versions that work
  2. Use PIN

Yes my issue seems like the issue described in the question thread you linked, albeit only the first half. Once i click on the taskbar prompt, my extension vault opens.
