Maybe within browser, but not within mobile and desktop apps. There it should be possible, or am I wrong?
Or did they just stopp developing it a few years ago?

The feature does not exist. Hence, the feature request.
I along with everyone else would be thrilled if I could view attachments without downloading them. I do think other files formats than those mentioned (such as WebP) should be included.
Granted, I think improving the entire way that adding attachments works is just as important. The entire one-at-a-time process is really rough when attaching multiple files and packaging them up (ZIP, RAR, 7-Zip, etc.) isnât a good solution in many situations.
It doesnt need to show pdf documents. I agree there are way too many security implications with that. All thatâs needed is PNG to show a passwort or drivers license image.
8 years and still waiting. The real issue is security, not just convenience. Every time you open a Bitwarden attachment, an unencrypted copy lands on your device. That defeats the point of storing sensitive files â passports, IDs, tax documents â in an encrypted vault. A sandboxed in-app viewer for images and PDFs would keep those files inside the encrypted environment and never write them to disk. Paid subscriber here. This is a genuine gap in Bitwardenâs security model, and it deserves more than 8 years of open requests.
@the.paulo.pereira Welcome to the forum!
I agree with the need, and that a fresh look at the problem is necessary. I think one potential approach could be creation of a RAM disk (ideally as an integrated solution bundled with the Bitwarden clients, but as a work-around, using third-party tools).
My guess is that unless there is a community contribution to get things rolling, the FR will remain on the back burner for a long timeâŚ

That would hurt a lot. Cannot understand that BW developers donât see this as an important feature?!
@saso I donât think that is an entirely fair assessment, since they have (on at least two separate occasions) invested development resources towards this effort. There were evidently technical obstacles to prevent their previous approach from working, and even if solving the problem is not currently the top-priority goal at Bitwarden, that doesnât mean that they donât consider the feature to be important.
This is a feature I miss, coming from 1Password. I have a lot of attachments, so itâs a bummer to have to download them first and then delete them when Iâm done viewing. Since 1Password and Proton Pass have implemented this feature, itâs possible to do. Perhaps Bitwardenâs architecture makes it a bit harder for them to implement and/or they just donât want to.
even if we were just to start with text files and images, it would help a lot.
Is this supposed to be enabled now? The help file for attachments implies that it works the way it should. But I just made sure to update my android app and nope, no joy. Did I miss the announcement about this and just canât seem to find the setting to enable it?
@LeslieP That is part of the 2026.4.0 Release â therefore, it needs Android app 2026.4.0, which is not released yet.
Excellent. I just need to be a bit more patient then. Thanks!
I hope the preview feature eventually makes it to the PC version too.
I know iOS is planned and there is no mention to have it planned for desktop, but it would be super convenient to have it on desktop (and maybe even browser extension for the few people that want to view attachment previews there).
