I will be traveling soon, and as part of my travel, I will need to connect to public WiFi networks.
To keep myself secure, I am planning to subscribe to a VPN service for the travel. I am leaning towards Mullvad VPN.
I have come across this error on the Bitwarden resources: Unusual traffic error and also seen users facing login issues when on VPN here on the Community forums and on the Bitwarden subreddit.
The Bitwarden article provides some steps to workaround the issue and I plan on following those steps if the error occurs. I am looking for suggestions on how I could avoid it altogether when on the VPN. Being locked out of the password manager while traveling would not be a good situation to be in.
Any tips or measures to prevent this from anyone who uses Bitwarden when on VPN would be greatly appreciated.
Hi I use “Mullvad VPN” all the time im connected to the internet, And found no problems at all logging into bitwarden, I have had a few problems with “google” “Unusual traffic from your computer network” and all I do is refresh the VPN server im on to another and that clears the error.
I use ExpressVPN from outside the States and would like to migrate from LastPass to BitWarden, but I am encountering the “Unusual Traffic” block. If I turn off my VPN (not wise in the area I am in), I can connect w/ BitWarden.
I run my own Wireguard VPN on a Raspberry Pi. As soon as I leave home, all traffic from my phone is routed back home through the VPN (where I also have a Pi-hole). So I should be fine: My IP will always the same as if I’m connecting to the internet from home.
However, I must admit that all these messages about being unable to connect to Bitwarden do make me a little nervous! I don’t want to find myself locked out of services that I need.
What are other good precautions to take?
I trust it that if I’m logged into the Bitwarden app on my phone and tablet there should be no problems?
Does it also help to use cellular data instead of any public Wifi or ISP using CGNAT?
