I’m using BW 20.22.5.1 on Windows 7, with Firefox and Chrome.
A few days ago, BW told me that I had no logins, although I have 150. After a few minutes, it corrected itself. I decided it was time to make a backup, and saved the .json file to my computer. If I ever actually lose my vault, how would I use this .json file to restore it?
(I was forced to attach 2 tags to this query, but there were only 4 to choose from. I don’t know what “self-hosting” means, but I chose it as my 2nd tag.)
Though I would also ensure you are either using an unencrypted json (and hopefully encrypting this separately) or using the password protected json rather than the account restricted json type as this can only be re-imported to the same account that has not rotated it’s account encryption key.
P.S. Self-hosting would be for if you are hosting your own Bitwarden server that the application connects to. Otherwise if you are not, then typically most will just use the default option which is the Bitwarden Cloud service online.
